GM has issued a product recall for certain units of the 2023 Chevy Equinox due to an issue with the Occupant Classification System.
The problem: affected vehicles equipped with ventilated front passenger seats may have a faulty Occupant Classification System, which could fail to properly disable the front passenger airbag when there is a child or child restraint detected in the seat.
The hazards: if the front passenger airbag were to go off while there is a child or child restraint in the seat, that child could be seriously injured.
The fix: certified GM technicians will be instructed to inspect the passenger presence system and replace if necessary, free of charge to the affected vehicle’s owner.
Affected components: Occupant Classification System.
Affected vehicles:
Number of affected vehicles: GM believes there to only be nine total affected vehicles with this issue across both the Equinox and the Terrain.
Owners should: GM will notify owners of affected vehicles and instruct them to make an appointment with their dealer. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed January 30th, 2023.
