The 2023 Chevy Equinox introduces a notable few changes over the fully refreshed 2022 model, which itself debuted several new exterior paint colors. Now, GM Authority has learned that one of these colors is no longer available to order for the 2023 Equinox.
Blue Glow Metallic (color code GHT) was one of four newly introduced colors for the 2022 Equinox, and can no longer be ordered for the remainder of the 2023 model year. As one of eight paint colors for the 2023 model, it was available as a no-charge hue on all trim levels.
It’s currently unknown if the Blue Glow Metallic color will return for the 2024 model year.
An interesting piece to note, the Blue Glow Metallic shade has also recently been made unavailable for the 2023 Chevy Blazer.
As a reminder, one of the more noteworthy upgrades for the 2023 Chevy Equinox is the introduction of a new engine. This new powerplant, the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline engine, replaces the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LYX gasoline engine equipped in the 2022 Chevy Equinox. This new engine produces 175 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque, a slight bump over the outgoing engine, and is mated to the GM six-speed automatic transmission.
Another update for the 2023 model is a new e-boost braking system, while the Sport Edition and Midnight Edition packages return. Compared to the 2022 model, pricing for the 2023 Equinox has increased by $300 across the board.
As for structure, the 2023 Equinox rides on the GM D2 platform, while production kicked off at the GM San Luis Potosí plant and GM Ramos Arizpe plant, both located in Mexico, on August 22nd, 2022.

Hey Trey, do you have connections that can explain what’s causing these paint color limitations? Is GM not negotiating sufficient quantity of the color and demand significantly exceeds what was expected?
Curious if the change over the past couple years in customers ordering more vehicles versus models for dealer stock have changed the mix of colors being ordered and GM had no way to anticipate the demand for certain colors.
Would appreciate any additional insight you could get on this.
I don’t understand how a color can be built out so early in a model year run. Does anybody know if this is yet more supply shortages or what?
GM has been doing this kind of thing for years. My 2006 Impala was “Glacier Blue”. That was the only year that color was offered. My 2015 Equinox is Sea Grass Green (it was an extra cost color). Again, only offered on Equinox/Terrain in 2015.
There could be several things going on here. It is not unheard of for there to be pigment shortages that prevent automakers from mixing certain colors. For example, after the 2011 Japan earthquake a shortage of the pigment used to make pearl white color for cars started to surface, requiring some automakers to constrain or stop offering the color.
Could be the color just isn’t selling. When the 2022 Equinox first starting showing up at dealers, it was the only color my local dealer had in stock. Literally 6-7 blue glow Equinoxes lined up….and considering cars were hard to come by they sat there for weeks until they were finally all sold. The dealer was emailing me letting me know they had stock and were offering discounts on 2022 Equinoxes.
Could also be they just don’t want to offer as many colors and that one got chopped. Who knows. Blue glow wouldn’t be my first choice if I wanted another Equinox.
Awesome… So who knows if the Blue Glow Equinox I ordered is actually getting the color or not. Hopefully the dealership already placed the order.
According to several dealerships the blue glow metallic touch up paint is backordered with no estimate of availability. I’m guessing it’s a supply chain thing and not low demand for the color. I contacted ACDelco about availability and was told it’s a GM product and can not be purchased with an ACDelco part number like other colors. I’ve been applying a coat of wax every few weeks to a small scratch in my 2022 Trailblazer Activ (Blue Glow Metallic).
How does a giant company such as GM run out of a paint color? I am glad that they offer some additional colors besides black, grey & white. What exactly is going on, GM?
