The 2023 Chevy Colorado introduces a third-generation for the pickup truck, bringing a bevy of upgrades inside and out. Although the all-new generation is set to launch early next year, we still haven’t seen all of the variants of the Bow Tie’s new midsizer. Luckily, we’re now getting our first look a 2023 Colorado Trail Boss painted in Nitro Yellow Metallic in the following exclusive GM Authority Live Photo Gallery.
This particular unit is outfitted in the Trail Boss trim level. This positions the midsize pickup as a basic off-roader, with all-terrain wares but without the higher end equipment of the Z71 or the high-level equipment and capabilities of the ZR2. On the outgoing, second-generation Chevy Colorado, the Trail Boss was offered as a package upgrade for LT and Z71 trim levels. But for the new generation, the Colorado Trail Boss is now its own trim level.

At the front of this particular 2023 Colorado Trail Boss, we see Black Bow Tie badging and a Gloss Black Sport Grille with a Molded in Color (MIC) Black Surround and Fascia treatment. In fact, the black treatment can also be seen on the door handles and belt line moldings.
Out back, we see CHEVROLET debossed into the tailgate, while a single rear exhaust pipe exits just behind the passenger-side rear tire.
As for rollers, this ensemble rides on 18-inch High Gloss Black aluminum wheels (RPO code PZX). Standard on the Trail Boss trim, these wheels are one of 10 available wheel designs available across the next-gen Chevy Colorado lineup.
This 2023 Colorado is draped in Nitro Yellow Metallic paint (color code GCO), an extra-charge option that’s available with all three Colorado interior colorways:
- Jet Black
- Jet Black / Adrenaline Red
- Jet Black / Artemis
It’s worth noting that Nitro Yellow Metallic is not available on WT or LT models. Additionally, the Trail Boss trim is only available with Jet Black Cloth seats or Jet Black with Evotex seat trim.
Black and Summit White are the only paint colors available for no extra charge. The other shades, including Nitro Yellow Metallic, are all extra-cost colors. This brings the total number of exterior hues for the upcoming 2023 Colorado to eight (relevant paint code listed in parentheses):
- Harvest Bronze Metallic (GXN)
- Sterling Gray Metallic (GXD)
- Sand Dune Metallic (GTL)
- Radiant Red Tintcoat (GNT)
- Glacier Blue Metallic (GLT)
- Nitro Yellow Metallic (GCP)
- Black (GBA)
- Summit White (GAZ)
As for powertrain, the Trail Boss trim level is equipped with the mid-range 2.7L Turbo Plus tune, where the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine develops 310 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. In regards to transmission options, all 2023 Colorados utilize an updated version of GM’s eight-speed automatic transmission, while 4WD, a two-speed auto transfer case, a transfer case shield, and limited slip differential are standard.
Under the skin is an updated version of the GMT 31XX platform, which underpins the second-generation Colorado. Under the 2023 and newer model, the architecture is known internally as GMT 31XX-2. Production of the all-new model will kick off at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri early next year.

I love yellow and think it should be offered on more vehicles, like the Camaro.
Looks like the rear shocks are moved inboard of the rear leaf springs like the last generation. I was hoping the Trail Boss would have the rear shocks outboard just like the ZR2 since it gets the same wide body as the ZR2.
So? They are still susceptible to off road damage whether in board or out. Never understood the hoopla behind the shock mounting location. Like the guys throwing a fit actually even take them off road. Those trims are still in the 5-10% of actually going off road; shoot the Wrangler only have a 30% off road rate from its owners. Still, you slide off a rock and now the shock catches the weight of the vehicle slamming down; and you slide off and around more often off road. I would rather them be mounted in board of the springs for two reasons, 1, I would rather drag a shock than have it slam down on something. 2, being I town and haul the spring carries and controls most of the weight, so having the spring further out helps control the side to side load weight transfer better than having the springs mounted further in.
You can get this ridiculous color but they don’t offer Red hot? Dumb
From the pictures of the 2023 Colorado I see it still has the “DRIVERS SIDE LEAN”. My 2019 has the LEAN. They all have it. The stance is PATHETIC. GM do something. The RANGER is standing tall. It may be my next truck!!
I think the mean lean is because the wheels are turned hard right.
It’s hard for the haters to see the obvious when all they want to do is tell us about their Ford.
Or maybe it has something to do with the fact that the truck is actually moving and turning right? I don’t know maybe its just me.
Like the yellow but just kinda plain looking. Maybe different Wheels and a more aggressive tire. Maybe the wheel well flares painted yellow? Just looks kinda blah to me. Like the truck though…
What a hideous color….
Three letters describe it as best I can think of……….D.O.T.
Need to see it in person. But I dont dislike what I’ve seen thus far.
Coming from an Owner of a 2002 Collector Editon Trans Am.
No thanks on the yellow for me. I’d go all black on trail boss or the red. Upgrade to the 20’s package with 33” tires that are more aggressive or just get better tires for those 18’s. What I dislike is you can’t get the Bose system, heated seats, or led lights for trail boss. That’s a deal breaker for me so in the end I’d go canyon at4 over trail boss.
The price point of the AT4 brings you into ZR2 territory.
