One month after the world debut of the all-new 2023 Cadillac Lyriq Sport AWD in China, GM Authority has learned that General Motors will officially launch the new Sport variant of Cadillac‘s electric crossover this week in the Asian country.
The automaker recently ended the pre-sale period for the all-new 2023 Cadillac Lyriq Sport AWD in China, as the SAIC-GM joint venture received first orders for the new Lyriq variant through November 18th via the Cadillac IQ app, along with a special benefits program. Now, sources familiar with the matter report that the Lyriq Sport will launch next Thursday, December 15th in the Chinese market.
In particular, the all-new 2023 Cadillac Lyriq Sport AWD represents the first variant of the crossover in China equipped with an all-wheel drivetrain. The new Sport complements the initial lineup that included the Lyriq’s well-appointed rear-wheel-drive Luxury and Prestige trim levels, which began shipping to Chinese dealers in late September.
As reported by GM Authority last month, the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq Sport includes notable design distinctions compred to the Luxury trim, encompassing a new crystalline black grille with a triangular diamond-cut pattern with its own “flying wing” lighting effect, an overall darkened finish on the body moldings and new clear-lense taillamps.
However, the main novelty of the new 2023 Cadillac Lyriq Sport AWD is the addition of a Ultium Drive motor on the front axle that combines with the rear axle drive unit to produce 375 kW or 503 horsepower and 710 Nm or 524 pound-feet of torque. Additionally, GM claims that the Lyriq Sport AWD has a range of 608 km or 378 miles under CLTC test procedures, compared to 650 km or 404 miles for the FWD model by the same measurement system.
The all-new 2023 Cadillac Lyriq Sport AWD will officially launch in China on December 15th, when the first units of the new Lyriq variant are scheduled to arrive at Cadillac IQ Stores, and starting prices will soon be announced. The Sport trim is expected to debut in the first half of next year in the United States as one of the new additions for the 2024 Lyriq.

I find it interesting, and frustrating, that China has different versions of the Lyriq, and I haven’t seen one on the road in the US. I have a reservation for the 2024 model but haven’t heard a word about possible timeframe of actually getting one. Apparently China has the bulk of these cars.
US Supply is constrained by battery, there is a slow trickle of Lyriq’s getting to customers, but I don’t think you will see many on the road until early next year.
China has there own plant to build these.
Me neither. My dealer tells me the same.
I ordered the 2023 LYRIQ in May. I’ve heard nothing.
Maybe they can get all the bugs out on the Chinese market before selling them over here.
I’ve ordered mine months ago and just a few days ago I’ve contacted the dealer (Eatontown NJ) and they told me that they don’t know when is coming and just for my knowledge the price will be different because they charge additional 3000.
I suspect the SAIC partner has a somewhat different supply chain in China than Cadillac here, and the consumer market/expectations are different. So, it’s going to be different there. Not a big deal. Plus, GM can now tell the Chinese they’re not being treated as a second-tier market, China is getting deliveries in-line or even better than US customers.
As frustrated as I am with the delays in US Lyriq deliveries, the comparative delivery situation is China doesn’t concern me much. (I just want my car)!!!!
China, China, China…where is the US market in all of this. GM/Cadillac have sold out to China. I’ll be shopping Germany for my next full-sized luxury sedan. Too bad, since I have 2 Cadillac CT6 sedans and have driven full-sized Cadillacs since 2001 when GM bought back our Old Aurora.
When I ask my dealer about the Lyriq, they said they might have them in by mid 2023. I wanted a RED LYRIQ. No such luck. They are not making that color in the US, yet; however, they might have that color LYRIQ in China. What about the United States?
