As GM Authority exclusively reported in the middle of the year, General Motors has just officially launched two variants of the 2023 Cadillac CT4 equipped with a new turbocharged 1.5L engine in China.
The automaker expanded the 2023 Cadillac CT4 lineup in China with two new lower-end versions that come standard with a next-generation powertrain, comprised of the new turbocharged 1.5L four-cylinder engine and an updated eight-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain seeks to enhance the competitiveness of Cadillac’s entry-level sedan in the world’s largest auto market.
The two new 2023 Cadillac CT4 variants that add the Turbo 1.5L engine in the Chinese market are named Fashion and Luxury, and wear a “25T” badge. These base trims complement the sedan’s existing lineup that includes Luxury and Prestige adorning the “28T” badge, equipped with the familiar turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY engine.
Notably, the new Turbo 1.5L engine in the 2023 Cadillac CT4 offers a class-leading output of 155 kW or 208 horsepower and 270 Nm or 199 pound-feet of torque, making it one of the most power-dense 1.5L engines in the industry. This configuration of GM’s latest eighth-generation EcoTec engine with the RPO code LDF is exclusively mated to the optimized eight-speed automatic transmission.
GM claims that the new Turbo 1.5L I4 LDF engine fitted to the 2023 Cadillac CT4 benefits from various technologies to deliver refined performance, intelligent control and optimized NVH. They include a 35MPa high-pressure SIDI direct injection system, an active thermal management system and the latest-generation ECM. In addition, a unique dual balance shaft system reduces vibrations to a minimum, enhancing the CT4’s smoothness.
The two new versions of the 2023 Cadillac CT4 equipped with the turbo 1.5L engine are now available for sale in the luxury brand’s official dealer network in China, whose units are manufactured at the Cadillac Jinqiao plant to exclusively supply the domestic market. The CT4 stands out as the only rear-wheel-drive sedan in its segment and has been well-received so far by Cadillac’s younger customers.
Here are the prices of 2023 Cadillac CT4 in Chinese market:
- 2023 CT4 1.5T Fashion: 219,700 yuan (about $31,520 USD at the current exchange rate)
- 2023 CT4 1.5T Luxury: 231,700 yuan ($33,240 USD)

Maybe tune the equinox/terrain to closer to these numbers and the few people that constantly whine about not having the 2.0 will be a little happier and stop beating a dead horse with their false pretenses?
When I was car shopping, I sat in a CT4. Total disappointment. Too cramped and too small. And i am not that big @ 160 lbs, 5′ 11″. Got into the CT5, and fell in love with it. Ordered one as soon as I could. Not sure how the CT4 will do in China, but I don’t see too many on the road here in the USA.
Thank god they will be putting those 25T and 28T Autozone type letters on the back. Makes perfect sense to me! haha.
I bet we’ll see a version of this engine in the new 2024 ICE Equinox, Terrain and other GM crossovers
We won’t. 2 reasons, Chinas emissions are a little more lax allowing for slightly more spark advance. While that may only add 1-3 ponies, the real kicker is the induction system. The CT4 has pipes that have enough breathing room for the 2.7 turbo. Unless we’re going to a CAI and dual exhaust system on the equinox, it ain’t happening.
Remember how the 3.6 V6 makes 305HP in most applications but 335HP in the camaro? Not a different engine, but is a different setup.
A 1.5 liter Cadillac. That’s a fart in a windstorm.
So ACZ… I guess if GM where to sell this CT4 here with 1.5 then it should be a boring Chevy Cruze with a cheap hard plastic interior instead of an cheap way to buy a nice Cadillac… Not everyone can afford the 2.0T or V6 this is what we need here more base power trains for everyday or city driving not everyone needs 250 or more HP. A Perfect example of this is my 2010 Chevy Equinox LTZ V6 it’s the 3.0 V6 and has 264hp it’s plenty for me ory wife to drive there is no need for 310hp in this vehicle just bragging rights. In fact I would be happy with an updated 3.8 DI V6.
That’s OK. Be a wimp.
As long it is a four cylinder engine, I’m O.K. with it.
Although a different engine, the ATS had a 2.4 NA four cylinder that produces 200 hp and 204? bls. of torque so it has similar numbers back then to the new 1.5 engine.
