2022 And 2023 Chevy Malibu Recalled For Improperly Welded Front Impact Bar

GM has issued a product recall for select examples of 2022 and 2023 Chevy Malibu models due to an issue related the front impact bar.
The problem: affected vehicles have their front impact bar, a structural component of the vehicle frame, improperly welded to the front frame rail. This issue can be present on either the right- or left-hand side of the vehicle.
The hazards: if the front impact bar is improperly welded, front crash sensors may not perform as intended, which could undermine occupant protection and increase the risk of injury in a frontal crash.
The fix: certified GM technicians will be instructed to inspect the right-hand and left-hand side of the vehicles motor rail for an incomplete weld. If the condition is found, the vehicle will be repurchased by GM.
Affected components: front impact bar.
Affected vehicles:
- 2022 Chevy Malibu
- 2023 Chevy Malibu
Number of affected vehicles: GM believes that a very small percentage (1 in 2,000) of vehicles have been built with this defect, and that 2,108 units are potentially affected by the recall.
Owners should: GM will notify owners of affected vehicles and instruct them to make an appointment with their dealer. Any owners that are unsure whether or not their vehicle is affected by this recall can visit my.gm.com/recalls and type in their VIN to see any open recalls or other actions that may be active on it. Wow, they will buy those vehicles back. It must be serious and good that they caught it with few car affected. I’m a little confused though. What do they mean by 1 in 2,000?
Sounds like a programming error in the weld shop. That is one car every 4 days (8 shifts). I have seen where there was a sequence of vehicles that caused a certain robot not cycle the welder. Is very rare. But when operator safety is #1 priority the number of steps in an automated system really complicate the work for the programming engineers. Strangely 90%(guessing) of all critical welds in Gm cars are bonded also with a glue that is strong as weld.
Wonder how the repurchase works & if currently if your vehicle isn’t being recalled, might it still be recalled at a later date? I have a 3022 Malibu Premier which GM. is no linger making.
Me too!
WTF GM? Really? How the hell this was missed by QC?
My cousin work at that plant that builds the Malibu sure there’s some quality issues going on at that plant. But hey let the dealership deal with it . And Support the UAW 😎😎😎
Repurchase At What Price?
I would think they would just replace the vehicle with a vehicle that meets the exact specs as the one you purchased. Would be nice if they would also kick in a option or two that you may not have in your original purchase. Just kind of a thank you for the time and effort you devoted to make this deal happen. Certainly would be a nice customer care gesture. Probably just wishful thinking though right?
Wishful Thinking!….But Maybe The Long, Lost, Forgotten Employee Discount That GM (SCROOGES) Use To Give At This Time Of Year!…LOLOL
Good luck getting a comparable replacement if you bought a Premier model with the 2.0T and 9-speed.
How do we know when all the owners of the recalled vehicles have been informed? If I haven’t been notified by GM and my VIN shows no recalls, am I safe?
These vehicles have all kinds of issues from transmission, faulty electricals, and the list goes on an on do not purchase new Malibu they have problems I had one it was a problem after problem.
