Long wait times are the norm these days when it comes to new vehicle delivery, and GM is no exception, with some GM customers waiting more than two years to finally get their new ride. Now, we’re taking a closer look at the lengthy wait times experienced by GM Authority readers with the following poll results.
For those who may have missed it, GM Authority published a poll last month asking readers how long they’ve been waiting for their new GM vehicle. Now, with 1,530 responses thus far, we can gain some insight into just how lengthy these delays really are.
Looking over the results, we find that the majority of poll takers report waiting for a year or less to take delivery of their new GM vehicle. The majority of poll takers (22 percent) report waiting four to six months, while 20 percent report waiting seven to nine months, 19 percent report waiting 10 to 12 months, and 14 percent report waiting one to three months.
Meanwhile, a quarter of poll takers report waiting more than a year for their new GM vehicle, with 9 percent waiting 13 to 15 months, 5 percent waiting 16 to 18 months, 2 percent waiting 19 to 21 months, 3 percent waiting 22 to 24 months, and 6 percent waiting more than 24 months.

7 to 9 months | 309 | 20 |
10 to 12 months | 292 | 19 |

“Waiting for nine months now for my 2022 Tahoe Premier,” comments GM Authority reader BDG. “First told that I couldn’t get the color I wanted, second, the larger motor was not available along with some of the speed control perks, then the delay turned this order to a 2023 model (price increase) and it was almost ready, but the ‘insulation under the hood’ was not in stock and then they were waiting on the motors for the electric windows.”
“Have been waiting since March 2022 for a Chevy Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss refresh in Dark Ash Metallic, LT Premium Package, Dark Essentials and Off Road Assist Steps,” comments GM Authority reader Larry. “Order still hasn’t been picked up by GM and assigned a build date yet. Was told by dealer they’re not sure if this truck will ever be built because of heavy constraint on the production of the LT Trail Boss.”
As reported previously, a variety of factors have influenced delivery times, with part constraints, production halts, supplier issues, and other factors all contributing to the delays. Of course, GM isn’t alone in this, but nevertheless, customers are understandably frustrated all the same.

These delays will continue for 2023 models and probably the 2024 models, too.
25% waiting a year or more? You poor people.
A breakdown by vehicle would be helpful!
Good point ! I posted the same comment before I read yours Steve. Ordered an extended cargo van April 30 2021 ! Still not here as of Nov 20,22 . That’s 19 months !
I ordered a leb GMC cargo van early 2021. The GM rep was at the dealership said it may not get built. I have never heard a word.
Waiting now for 0ne year. Was a 2022, not sure if it will be a 2023…. wonder if it would be a 2024 or GM just won’t accept the order?
Your 22 may still be sitting in a field.
You will probably get by Feb. nice and depreciated and smart buyers will get 4k or more off MSRP + rebates.on remaining 22s
I was told my 1500 LT Trail Boss, Crew Cab, Standard Bed, Diesel, 4×4, with quite a few premium packages I was told was built the first week of June (after ordering the last week of April). It has been sitting in Mexico ever since. I was told last week that it was put on a priority shipping but no date for delivery. This is the 5th GM truck I have ordered and I think this one has taken longer than all of the rest combined. I’m glad my 2005 2500HD is still going strong with 355000 miles on it. I would hate to be in an urgent situation needing to get the new one (my experience buying one off of the lot has not been good),
Priority shipping without a date sounds reassuring.
I think I would say no without a big price adjustment.
The diesel engine received updates for 23.
Just another example of GM not taking care of BUSSINES & their CUSTOMERS. Terrible management.
GM is running out of excuses. Supply is almost back to normal.
The poll should have also listed what vehicles were taking the longest to acquire, Ex; Cadillacs=3-6 mos, Cargo vans 12=18 mos, Pickuptrucks 6=12 mos , EV’s =1-6 mos etc . Corvettes =18-30 mos ! Now that would be useful info.
Wonder why on cargo vans. You’d think they’d be the quickest and easiest to build…
They put chips where they make the most money and it’s not Cargo Vans.
Cargo vans typically have the least creature comforts, so I’m not so sure “chips” are a big player here.
They’re usually very basic trucks and they’re critical for businesses.
I ordered a 22 Silverado High Country in March. I got an email from Chevy in August saying they couldn’t fulfill my order. The dealer had to resubmit my order as a 23 ($3,000 price increase) , but chevy sent me a $3,000 discount coupon. Just took delivery 11/10/22.
I read this every day I did not see the poll. I ordered a 22 Tahoe Premier and a 22 Corvette on the same day Sept 30th, 2021.
Tahoe came in exactly 8 weeks, the Vette order was sent to the plant on Dec 28th it also took exactly 8 weeks to come in Feb 28th. Both came in with all my options both were loaded cars. The Tahoe was shipped without stop-start NOW I CALL THAT A GIFT AND THEY GAVE ME $50 OFF BECAUSE OF THAT. I WOULD HAVE PAID THEM $200 NOT TO GET IT I WAS LUCKY.
Sounds like extremely poor management at GM! Instead of taking care of current customers, which should be JOB ONE, Barra is worried about and devoting time and attention to the future of these energy-hog, battery powered EV frauds to stay in the good graces of Biden’s suck-up club. Current customers are hung out to dry and the problems are allowed to continue with constant blame being laid on “supply chain” issues which is really getting old !
A fine line between supply issues and corporate mismanagement. Regardless, the result is the same, very frustrated customers and low confidence in GM. Who is excited to buy a year old vehicle that has been sitting out in the weeds and elements for months. Am sure the mice and rats are enjoying their new homes. Sad
gm won’t be able to repair these damaged customer relationships, especially when there are so many other choices.
I will get 1500 with diesel 27/30 mpg
No one else has one ! So I wait & drive my 15 Duramax with 200k
I don’t understand why customer ordered vehicles aren’t at the front of the line compared to dealer stock. My 1500 LT Trail Boss, Crew Cab, Standard Bed, Diesel, 4×4, with quite a few premium packages I was told was built the first week of June (after ordering the last week of April). It has been sitting in Mexico ever since.
according to Chev build site, my dealer has lots of new inventory …. 60 + pickups …. if I go to the lot, surprised to see maybe 7 that appear to be there available to buy. How is it they can have any surplus available for dealer inventory while unable to build, transport and deliver customer order more than a year old? No transparency by GM and dealer websites show new inventory ostensibly for sale and available, but if you call to ask, “oh that Traverse was sold long ago” ….. GM’s whole scam is bait and switch, and clearly false advertising ….. trying to lure you in and then sell you an overpriced, loaded pickup truck that you really don’t want and would never order. (18 months for me, waiting just to order a van, and looks like the Traverse I ordered in July might be here before the end of the year) Oh! and on the inventory website, good luck getting a straight answer from “Emily” the message bot when asking if a vehicle is actually available for sale. After 50 yrs, I am done with GM. Selling GM short might be smart? They can’t survive this kind of customer dissing.
The gm diehards here refuse to recognize that gm has a huge customer perception problem from all of this.
These hard-to-get-back customers are likely gone forever.
Not good.
Apparently Ford is having trouble delivering F150 pickups because it does not have enough blue ovals and F150 markings for the side of the truck.
I ordered a 2022 Cadillac XT6 for my wife (to replace her 2015 SRX with 8400 miles, yes 8400!) a year ago in Oct and after 3 months Cadillac had not yet started on the vehicle. The dealer was USELESS in even trying to answer any questions. Of course that would have required actually answering an email;, Text, or voice mail……so after all this I called the dealer GM and cancelled the order. They really did not seem to care. Then in late May 2022 I get a call to ask if I am still interested in the vehicle as it will be in within 7 days. I said no! When I was at the dealer in Sept for service on that SRX, the vehicle was still on display exactly as I had ordered it, PREMIUM LOADED with AWD. I asked a sales person about it and he said it was a customer cancel but that no one in the area seems to want AWD (vehicle sticker was about 78k). I told him if they took 4 grand off the MSRP I would write him a check right there. They declined. That is when I told them I was the customer who originally ordered the vehicle loaded. And they said THANK YOU and walked away. Now mind you this I one of the premier caddy dealers in the area with their BMW lot right next door. See, the dealers do not care. They are selling everything they can get at sticker or above and customers are friggin dumb enough to pay it. So I will wait until the supply crisis is over and the dealer have a lot of stock. Then I will by. MY vehicle is a 2015 Tahoe LTZ with only 46k on it. Dealers are making plenty of money with ZERO effort or concern for their customers. Anyway, that is my opinion, feel free to disagree – it’s your right!
This information is misleading. The guys that are only at 1-3 month’s waiting just haven’t gotten to 11-15 months like the rest of us yet. Compare order date to delivery date to understand wait period. Oh wait. You can’t do that because there are no deliveries. Also, let’s do it right and by model next time.
All the TV adds are for 24 & up & they can’t build a 23 complete
demand must be declining? Incentives are back again …(ie: price reduction) on trucks not even available in most cases … $1500 off for Silverados? plus $500 cyber cash. >>> Much like a few years ago, Constant incentives of $7000 to $10000 off the fake msrp.
My dealer refuses to close my deal now so I can get the $1000 Nov incentive on my 2023 Traverse, until it actually arrives and is on his lot….even though it has been transported across the country and sitting on a railcar in Spokane, awaiting off loading. If it does not arrive in ten days, Maybe I will luck out and total rebates will be more in December, when it is more likely to arrive?
update 11.30.22 My 2023 Traverse has arrived at my dealer in Idaho …. just in time to qualify for November rebates. Will be interesting to see if there are better rebates in December. I was worried the rail strike might have delayed it longer. Ordered 7.14.22
they CAN complete 23s and 22s to send to dealers for inventory on the lots, just won’t complete vehicles that are already sold and have been ordered 18 months ago! what a scam!
Nothing to do with the poll…. but after three car shows in the last month with a a broad cross section of Corvettes, I have to say that the more I see the C-8 Corvette the less I like of what they have done to my brand. Sitting across from a line of Vettes, I could not help noticing that the C-8 looks absolutely cheap. The front end of the car is crappy compared to the C-7, and especially the C-6 or C-5 (the best looking Corvettes Chevy ever produced)…… Look yourself and do a story on it. The rear end of the C-8 is also right out of a plastic toy factory……

In 2015 it took Ford seven months between ordering a Transit van to the day it was finally delivered to the dealer.
The poor management of GM under Mary Barra is obvious, and only getting worst over the last 3 years. Maybe her buddy Joe will bale them out before they file for bankruptcy. Or maybe Elon will buy GM and show everyone how a efficient profit making car manufacturer works.
Dead nuts on, GM is heading towards bankruptcy and Mary is driving the car.
If GM cared anything about getting America rolling they would produce a 3 or 4 cyl gas powered inexpensive car that got 50 miles to the gallon and cost under $10,000 (heater/AC/radio, no other frills)…. get the working guy or gal to work and to church……. don’t tell me it can’t be done. But GM won’t, they are in lock-step with unions that drive up costs, exec’s who drive up costs, and a bloated government that makes their jobs easier. NOT better, easier.
stiil wait for my GMC Savana passenger 2500 ordered februari 2022:(
Took 9 months for wifes 2022 Camaro 2SS to arrive, & since they’re supposed to be ending the Camaro line again, will be our last GM vehicle. I looked over their SUVs along with other brands, & decided to go with 2022 Toyota 4Runner, for the options I preferred, & the reputation/longevity. Still like the pickups, but being older, don’t do near as much that requires one anymore. Besides our GM experience this year, the airlines are still so screwed up, that even the wife said no more flying!
The fact that the dealers and GM won’t give us any answers is the worst part.
I’ve got one Put my deposit down of a Z06 2 1/2 years ago. Local Louisville dealer said I had the No.1 slot. Now he tells me I am now number 4. (Wonder who paid extra for those 3 slots ahead of me.) Keeps telling me he never said that. Now what do I do. Also, put a deposit on a GM Hummer 2 years ago. Happy day, just got a email from GM saying it should be built near the end of the 2024 production year. 4 years to wait for a Truck. Oh, BTW the dealer said he would be charging me most likely 100k over list. Reason. He said be cause he can’t make any money since he can’t get cars from GM. Who believes that one.
Found this article while googling. Waiting 3 months so far for a basic Silverado WT with 8′ bed. Not a single long bed truck on the lot of any dealerships near me. Very frustrating. Based on these comments I’m going to be waiting a long time. My current WT has over 239,000 miles. Hope it can make it another year. ☹️
I have been waiting for my GMC Elevation for 11 months. I decided to build one in 2022 and was told 6 months i should have it. Its been 11 months now and a price increase due to GMC not making 2022’s anymore. I was told that in October my truck was pulled off the line because they didn’t have the parts for the multi pro tailgate and that it will be back on the line December 3rd 2022. Its March 8th and its still not back on the line. When will these issues be fixed and will i have to change to a 2024 soon and pay more because they will have to many 2023 orders to deal with. GMC be better.
I had a reservation for a ’23 Silverado WT long bed for my business, but cancelled it after learning Chevy has basically no interest in ever making a truck in my configuration again (despite that you can configure it on their website).
Wound up getting a Rivian R1T instead that I’ll outfit to meet my business needs. They got it in my driveway within two weeks of ordering.
My 2023 Equinox has been sitting in Mexico since October 2022. Ordered it to replace my 2020 Equinox. Here it is June 2023 and its still in Mexico. These delivery delays are a really bad look for GM
The Chinese government owns 50% of GM stock. Let see if they can reduce cost and deliver on a timely basis. First step should be to replace the GM CEO and the board.
