GMC Hummer EV SUV Unveiled For The First Time In China

Exactly one year after the debut of the GMC Hummer EV Pickup in China, General Motors has just introduced the all-new GMC Hummer EV SUV for the first time in the Asian country under the umbrella of the new The Durant Guild imported vehicle platform.

The all-new GMC Hummer EV SUV was presented at the China International Import Expo 2022 (CIIE) that began on November 5th in Shanghai, as part of the portfolio of iconic vehicles that General Motors plans to market in the Chinese market with its new business unit called The Durant Guild. The Hummer EV SUV was the second biggest addition to the platform after the Cadillac Celestiq show car, which also made its local debut at the event.

Based on the first Hummer EV supertruck, the all-new GMC Hummer EV SUV reinterprets the aura of the king of off-road utility vehicles to uniquely combine off-road prowess with the latest zero-emission propulsion technology. As such, the Hummer EV SUV is an integral part of the Made-in-America halo product strategy that The Durant Guild will market beginning next year in China.

“The Durant Guild, along with its iconic portfolio of global vehicles, is the latest demonstration of GM’s unmatched commitment to China,” said GM Executive Vice President and President of GM China, Julian Blissett, in a statement. “We will continue reaching out to our local customers – now and in the future,” he added.

Notably, the GMC Hummer EV SUV is unveiled in China nearly 20 months after the model’s world debut during the 2021 NCAA’s Final Four in April 2021, and before the start of its deliveries in the United States. In fact, production of the Hummer EV SUV is expected to begin during the first quarter of 2023 at the GM Factory Zero plant in Detroit, the only planned facility to build the Hummer EV lineup anywhere in the world.

There is still no estimated date for the official launch and sale start of the all-new GMC Hummer EV SUV or any other vehicle in the model portfolio that The Durant Guild platform is preparing for China. The iconic SUV will be on display this week alongside the Cadillac Celestiq show car and Corvette Z06 at the 2022 CIIE, as the automaker continues to shape its new business unit.

  1. If the Chinese knew the truth about William Crapo Durant, they wouldn’t want anything named after him. He almost tanked GM twice. Alfred P. Sloan saved the corporation.
