GM Releases Fix for 2023 GMC Acadia Sealer Adhesion Failure Issue

GM has issued a service bulletin to fix the internal seam and underbody sealers in 2023 GMC Acadia units.

The problem: During adhesion testing in-plant, the internal seam and underbody sealer may have failed.

The hazards: if the internal seam and underbody sealer were to have failed, then the vehicle’s structure could be compromised.

The fix: certified GM technicians will be instructed to inspect the sealer and apply new sealer to the affected areas. GM notes that technicians should not order from GMCCA and need to use 3-M Bare Metal Seam Sealer (part no. 8310) from a local body shop. The repair process should take roughly four hours.

Number of affected vehicles: it’s unclear at this time how many units are affected by this issue.

As a reminder, the 2023 GMC Acadia is offered with two powertrain options, starting with the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine, rated at 228 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 258 pound-feet of torque at 1,500 rpm. Customers can also upgrade to the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LGX gasoline engine, which is rated at 310 horsepower at 6,600 rpm and 271 pound-feet of torque at 5,000 rpm.

Regardless of engine choice, both connect to the GM 9-speed automatic transmission, with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive available.

The 2023 Acadia rides on the regular-wheelbase-variant of the GM C1 platform. Production takes place at the GM Spring Hill plant in Tennessee.
