General Motors recently confirmed that the next-generation GMC Acadia will grow in size, corroborating an exclusive GM Authority report originally published in August 2020.
For those readers who may have missed it, GM Authority previously reported that the upcoming third-generation GMC Acadia would debut as a full-size crossover, as compared to the midsize dimensions of the current second-generation model. When the first-generation GMC Acadia originally launched in 2007, it was offered as a full-size three-row model, with the second-gen model downsizing an entire size segment, both inside and out.
Now, however, GM has confirmed that the upcoming third-generation GMC Acadia will be bigger than the current second-gen model. During a presentation given at the recent GM Investor Day event, GM President Mark Reuss addressed future product plans for the Acadia, stating, “Alongside the Traverse, we’ll move the GMC Acadia to a little bit different size standpoint. This comes in a little bigger than the old Acadia, so it’s a big transformation for GMC and its part of the market.”
“Very handsome, very much GMC truck premium,” Reuss added. “It’s really just a Professional Grade SUV in this three-row category for us.”
The next-generation GMC Acadia is expected to debut during the 2024 calendar year, and as such, will be offered for either the 2024 model year, or 2025 model year. In addition to revised exterior styling and a new interior, the next-generation GMC Acadia is expected to ride on a modified version of the GM C1 platform, or C1-2. Onboard tech features will include the GM Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver assist feature, per exclusive GM Authority coverage and previous prototype vehicle spy photos.
As for what’s under the hood, the next-gen GMC Acadia may offer a number of different engines, including the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LGX gasoline engine, the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine, or the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine. Production will take place alongside the Chevy Traverse and Buick Enclave at the GM Lansing Delta Township plant in Michigan.
