Corvette Brand To Expand To Electric Sedan, Crossover In 2025

The Corvette is destined to go electric – that much should be obvious given GM’s plans to go full EV across its passenger vehicle lineup by 2035, as well as comments made by GM President Mark Reuss earlier this year. Now, new details on the upcoming all-electric Corvette products have come to light.
Let’s start by briefly summarizing the story thus far. As GM Authority reported in August, GM is considering the development of a new all-electric Corvette sedan to rival sporty models like the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S, most likely with the GM BEV3 architecture providing the underpinnings, as well as next-generation GM Ultium batteries and GM Ultium drive motors for motivation. GM Authority even went so far as to render what this forthcoming battery-powered Corvette might look like.
What’s more, GM Authority reported over the summer that GM was also considering the development of a new all-electric Corvette crossover, a model which would rival products like the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo, as well as the upcoming all-electric Porsche flagship set to slot in above the Porsche Caynne and Porsche Macan.
So then, the current situation is as follows – at this point, it should be more than obvious that the C8 Corvette Stingray is nothing short of a runaway success. What’s more, demand for the C8 Corvette Z06 is so high, GM will be filling orders for many years to come. Further C8 variants like the E-Ray, ZR1, and Zora are all on the way, and while an all-electric replacement for the C8 is coming, it won’t arrive until much later than anything else mentioned here.
Once the new C8 variants are rolled out, GM is expected to launch a new Corvette sub-brand around the 2025 calendar year. The new sub-brand will consist of a coupe-like four-door Corvette sedan model, as well as a new Corvette crossover, both of which will utilize GM Ultium batteries and GM Ultium drive motor tech.
These new Corvette EV products will stay true to the nameplate by offering sexy styling and a high-performance driving experience. What’s more, the switch to EVs (and likely the BEV3 platform) will enable designers to rethink Corvette’s proportions. After all, BEV3 is high flexible, as evidenced by BEV3-based products like the Cadillac Lyriq, Cadillac Celestiq, and Chevy Equinox EV – all very different vehicle indeed.
Additionally, Car and Driver now reports that the upcoming Corvette EV products will incorporate a patented cooling system for the batteries, ultra-efficient inverters, an 800-volt electrical system with 350-kW charging capabilities, a two-speed transmission, four-wheel steering, and a torque vectoring system.
While the purists are undoubtedly squirming at the though of an all-electric sedan or crossover bearing the Corvette nameplate, the motivation behind the strategy is simple – it’s all about money. The Porsche Cayenne, for example, proved just how profitable a sports car brand could be when applied to another segment, and now, even Ferrari is getting in on the action.
All told, we want to know – do you welcome these upcoming changes for the Corvette brand? Let us know your thoughts by voting in the poll below, and remember to subscribe to GM Authority for more Chevy Corvette news, Chevy news, GM electric vehicle news, and around-the-clock GM news coverage.

Electrification is going tappen, no doubt…but…those rear taillights pointing downward look like a frown from the rear. : (…I know they want good aerodynamics but POINT THEM UPWARDS. !!!
What a bunch of BS leave the Corvette alone I’ve said this before leave it as a sports car not as a taxi
Sorry, but for me the mere notion of a “Corvette” Sedan or Crossover is sacrilege. The beginning of the end for the model. Is nothing sacred ? Sad !
Corvette is one of the two American brands known around the world. The other is Harley Davidson. Both quintessential American. As a corporation, u take advantage of that. Porsche has demonstrated how u expand the line without diluting the brand. Performance SUVs are a “thing”. Full stop.
Then sell them through Cadillac….full stop.
Yeah, go ahead and discuss that with the Chevy dealers. I’m sure they have no problem w that.
I’ve been around since the brand started back in 1953, and my last Corvette (I’ve owned seven) was and still is the C7 Grand Sport.
I’m glad I will not be around much longer to see the demise of America’s Sports Car.
It’s a new day and love or hate it’s here to stay. There are thousands upon thousands of front engine Vettes available for those that lament, what they perceive as, the downfall of the brand.
So much for America’s Sports Car! BIG mistake! Why does GM have to follow the croud? CALL IT SOMETHING ELSE!!
Because the government is giving the auto manufactures gobs of money to push the electric vehicles down our throat he won’t find one in my garage
One thing to consider as everyone is going with electrification. Corvette was designed as a sports car and it is still that. Zora was very instrumental in making sure that it was competitive the whole world and that’s including at autocrosses. As it stands now anything powered by an electric motor is not allowed to compete due to fire hazards and the lack of being able to put the fire out. Last I knew both the NCCC and the SCCA’s insurance doesn’t offer coverage.
Hey, I’m an environmentalist, American Patriot who owns 16 Classic ICE cars…Hmmm…Guilty as charged..lol… Unfortunately , we have to deal with Climate change and the MANY things that cause it. Most of us don’t use our classic ICE cars for regular driving. Electric cars are only part of reducing greenhouse gas emisssions…..but it is part of it whether we like it or not. Ford is successgul with the Mach e, why wouldn’t an electric SUV Corvette be successful whether WE like it or not?? THE TIMES THEY AREA CHANGIN…..I’ll stil be pleasure driving my Vettes and Caddys as long as the wackos like the ones that threw paint on mink coast a few years ago don’t attack our cars !! The minks had already gone to heaven; maybe just don’t send anymore there. The ICE cars have already been made; why mess with them ?? They ‘re dumping way more greenhouse gases with coal fired electricity plants and other sources right. ? That has to stop too.. Motor on and enjoy the ride.
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS CLIMATE CHANGE. The world has been doing this for millions and millions of years. The earth will be here for centuries without messing with coal use, wood burning and gas use for heat. GREENHOUSE gases is another thing they (you) are pouring down our throats. EV’S will die because us ICE users will never buy one. First question is how are you going to produce ALL the electricity needed for all the EV’s??? EXACTLY, YOU CAN’T.
Def should just use a different name rather than econo-tainting the Corvette name badge by coattail riding.
How about Impal-ette? Or Impaled? Or Shov-ette? Or Veg-ian? Or Equi-knocks? Or Sliver-ado?
The 4 door and SUV renderings are ugly and will disparage the Corvette name. Ford ruined the Thunderbird potential but ultimately destroyed it. Yes, for years Ford sold lots of Thunderbirds but the special allure of being a 2 door sports car was lost. I have worked for the OEMS for 52 years and 98% of the so-called ‘car people’ in those companies are simply there to get a paycheck to enjoy there boats, or watch sporting events or whatever else that is no car-related. These people do not race cars themselves nor work on them. At work I see minimal effort to create great value products but instead a desire to shine in front of the boss so they can get more money or they strive to do as little as possible so that the customer gets a great value. I have been blessed to have workd in mainstream Powertrain design, in the Factory sponsored Race-Component design groups and in Manufacturing. Sadly, the people who love the cars are the ones reading this post not those who work for automotive companies and with my experience I am well-qualified to have made these observations. Lastly, this everything-has-to-be-EV political ignorance is a political pandering as all fuels have their place in specific environments. If GM offers only EVs then I will buy from a manufacturer who sells what meets my needs and desires. 98% of politicians are totally self-centered people.
Well, it seems history teaches us nothing. You old timers like me know the results of the “improvement” of the sporty 1957 two-seat Thunderbird to a four-seat car in 1958. And years beyond… UGH
It just seems that a two door coupe is a real sport car. I love my 2021 C8 Z51. It’s fast handles great, nice on long trips and gets good mpg. I think Gm thinks the demand for the current C8 will be as high for the new family models. Not sure if that’s going to work out for the company. It might because younger people don’t care about race car performance cars. I’m pretty sure people don’t buy Tesla’s to rip up a curvy mountain Road.
Kinda sad that Corvette has been America sports car for seventy years without leaving it true roots and now it’s going to be just a regular car.
4 door looks like a Dodge Charger re-do with frowning tail lights (probably because of sad way brand is being treated) Imagine screaming toddlers in the back seat! NOT what people buy a Corvette for. Leave it alone!!!
Zora Duntov and Harley Earle are rolling in their graves to think such nonsense would destroy their iconic true American sportscar. Oldsmobile used to be the place experiments were tried (remember the Toronado). Now the greenhead tree huggers and brass at GM are caving to the EV craze to satisfy Washington. If Porsche or BMW want to, then go ahead. Corvette brand should stand alone for what it was intended. Not everyone wants an EV. They cannot replace the throaty rumble of the powerful ICE. An EV might accelerate faster, but people don’t buy a Vette for the very reasons mentioned. And our electric grid is not prepared for all the EV’s being made now. Imagine sitting at an interstate rest stop waiting to pull into a crowded charging area and then 2hrs. to recharge! Either leave the Corvette alone or sell the brand to a private entity who still cares about what it was originally intended for. I don’t own a Corvette, but have a G body Monte Carlo Now its gone after GM downsized it, put in a weak crappy V6, ruined the looks and now the model is gone! Should not happen to the Vette by tinkering with it’s original intent. EV’s suck and deplete the earth of exotic metals. They are more expensive and battery replacement costs astronomical. Plus this country is not ready until sufficient infrastructure is in place to support EV operation all across the country. 4 door EV Vette I give a thumbs gown.
Corvelle or Chevette if GM wants a sporty new 4 door, but the name Corvette is already taken by a two seater gas powered “Sports Car”. Four door Corvette…..hell no!
What would they do to make a suv different than a Cadillac version? Bigger battery? More powerful motors? Could it handle any better? More utilitarian? Why don’t they just make a new Chevy model with these features? I sure hope it looks better than that blue thing in the pic.
Is it just me, or does the rear view of the sedan bare a STRIKINGLY similar resemblance to a dodge charger? Other than that corvette emblem and the lack of the dodge tail light bar across the entire rear. The crossover looks too much like a Porsche in my opinion. Or maybe a 2016 era Ford escape.
Everything is looking the same these days, and many cars from different manufacturers have engine sizes that are all the same too. Coincidence?
Somehow I don’t think a Corvette Station Wagon will be a big seller for them.
I am not surprised at GM’s efforts to make money off of the Corvette brand, but I am very disappointed. At my age of nearly 75 years, I have been a Corvette enthusiast for over 60 years and an owner of Corvettes for over 55 years. I see Porsche’s dilution of it’s own nameplate and have not been impressed with their results. I agree with many of the previous comments that GM should NOT dilute the Corvette nameplate but rather use another GM brand. Unfortunately, my thoughts or feelings as a TRUE CORVETTE supporter and owner do not matter to the money making, big auto industry and GM. Very sad days ahead. At least we can savor our memories of the TRUE AMERICAN SPORTS CAR, the CORVETTE.
They’re probably going to build them in china next … so there won’t be any American car if it’s kind anymore
