The Chevy Silverado ZR2 serves as the most off-road capable model within the Silverado light duty family. Originally introduced for the 2022 model year, this all-terrain pickup has been highly sought after, and now, GM Authority has learned that it’s the fastest-turning trim level in the Silverado 1500 lineup.
What this means is that the Chevy Silverado ZR2 spends the shortest amount of time sitting on dealer lots as compared to other trim levels.
This doesn’t come as a surprise, as the ZR2 was launched only last year in conjunction with the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado. In addition, production of the ZR2 is extremely limited, which makes it a rare vehicle to begin with.
To further the capabilities of the ZR2, Chevy recently introduced an all-new trim level, the Chevy Silverado ZR2 Bison. The Bison features enhanced underbody protection, heavy duty recovery points, integrated step pads, an available winch accessory, steel rocker protection, and higher approach and departure angles.

This information comes as Silverado Light Duty sales fell more than 21 percent year-over-year as a result of various production constraints and the idling of production facilities for weeks at a time.
As a reminder, the Silverado ZR2 1500 was introduced in conjunction with the truck’s refresh for the 2022 model year. Positioned as an off-road machine above the Silverado Trail Boss Custom and Trail Boss LT, the ZR2 features a high-approach front bumper, front and rear e-lockers, MultiMatic DSSV dampers with uniquely tuned springs, unique skid plate protection, 33-inch off-road MT tires, and a tucked-under exhaust setup for better approach and departure angles.
As for powertrain, the Chevy Silverado ZR2 features the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine as standard, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Output is directed through the GM 10-speed automatic transmission.
The Silverado ZR2 range will soon expand to the Silverado HD, as first reported by GM Authority back in March. The Silverado ZR2 HD will launch for the 2024 model year and will feature upgrades similar to its light duty brother, including revised front and rear bumpers, front and rear locking differentials, and 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires, among other updates.
Production of the 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 began at the GM Oshawa plant in Ontario on August 20th, 2022, and at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana and GM Silao plant in Mexico on August 29th, 2022, for both Regular Cab and Crew Cab models, and on September 6th, 2022, for Double Cab models.

Hi, Trey, Like, your report, however, do you not think for the non-professional engineer or tech. and explanation on departure and approach angles means to vehicle performance.
The Silverado 3rd quarter 22-year loss production volume because GM built more Sierra because the premium brand fetch more $$ in MSRP. It is all about the $$
Fastest turning? Maybe because less than 5% availability (probably less) nation wide when trying to order. We have 5 orders (2 of them near a year that cant be fulfilled because they aren’t building many if any.. GM is doing a swell job of marketing “exciting new features and tech” that is unable to be ordered because of supply chain, this was a known fact and has not been improved or addressed on these trucks..
This should come as no surprise to anyone. 9 out of 10 Silverado’s I see on the road are of the Trail Boss trim. So, logically, another off-road package should sell very well too. Another aspect that definitely plays into the fact that dealers can’t keep them on lots is that auto production has slowed to a crawl over the past ~2 years, since nobody can get any supplies to produce said vehicles. Add in the fact that inflation has increased by ~33% during the same time period (US Dept. of Labor Statistics) and you get a much clearer picture of the mess that we’re currently in. 🙁
GM reads the testosterone tea leafs well.
The reason why GM is having all these ICE vehicle delays, is because they are PUSHING so hard on the EV platform. They THINK we are just going to cave into their demands, and go buy an EV that takes 11 hours to charge from your home. NO one is talking about how much your electric will increase per month by charging them!!
