Narrowing down the segment to only midsize crossovers with two rows of seating puts the Blazer in second place out of a half-dozen entries with a 21 percent segment share, up a healthy 10 percentage points. The Santa Fe placed first with a 34 percent share, up six percentage points. From there, the Blazer was followed by the Edge with a 20 percent share, up four percentage points.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee, which we typically include in the midsize two-row segment, is now offered in both two- and three-row configurations. Unfortunately, Jeep’s parent, Stellantis, does not break out sales figures of both models, leading us to remove it from this comparison.

The two-row mid-size mainstream crossover segment contracted 13 percent to 82,467 units during Q3 2022, meaning Blazer sales significantly outperformed this segment average as well, posting the highest growth rate.

The GM Authority Take

Chevy Blazer sales were up a solid 63 percent during the third quarter of 2022 in spite of continued negative factors, including low availability and inventory. The Blazer placed near mid-pack in the midsize and full-size mainstream crossover segment and second when competing against similar two-row mid-size mainstream crossovers.

Blazer national supply was at 13 days at the beginning of October. By comparison, it was at just nine days in March, a mere 11 days in December 2021, and a scant five days in November 2021. Supply has been low for most of the past two years. The optimal figure for the U.S. auto industry is 60 days.

The continuing drop in inventory suggests a considerable excess of demand over supply for the Chevy Blazer, which can often be explained by the various ongoing parts and material shortages, headlined by the ongoing global semiconductor microchip shortage. The scenario has impacted vehicle production at auto plants around the world, including the GM Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico where the Blazer is produced for the Americas, itself resulting in the inventory shortage. Production of the 2022 Chevy Blazer was idled from August 23rd to September 6th before finally restarting on October 18th.

The refreshed 2023 Chevy Blazer arrives with revised front and rear fascias, different LED headlights and taillights, and a new infotainment display. One of the new interior changes is the addition of the Jet Black colorway with Nightshift Blue accents. Also, the 2023 Chevy Blazer gets separate Convenience and Driver Confidence packages, splitting the content previously included with the Convenience and Driver Confidence Package offered for the 2022 Blazer. The 2023 Blazer adds two new Arctic appearance packages and expands availability of the wireless phone charging feature, which is now offered on all trim levels.

GM’s turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine remains standard on the 2023 Blazer 2LT, 3LT, and Premier, producing 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LGX gasoline engine, meanwhile, is standard on the RS trim level and is available as an option on the 3LT and Premier. The LGX V6 is rated at 308 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. Both of these engines are paired with the GM nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel-drive is standard and all-wheel-drive is optional.

2024 Chevy Blazer EV SS

In July, the 2024 Chevy Blazer EV finally made its official debut, ushering in the next generation of mass-market electric crossovers from the American brand with an available GM-estimated range of up to 320 miles on a full charge. The Chevy Blazer EV will be available in front-, rear- and all-wheel drive configurations, while the trim level lineup will include 1LT, 2LT, RS, and Blazer EV SS, along with a Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV) model for law enforcement – the quickest police package ever offered by Chevy.

The Bow Tie brand is even bringing back a Super Sport model with the first-ever 2024 Chevy Blazer EV SS. A standard performance AWD propulsion configuration delivers up to 557 horsepower and 648 pound-feet of torque in the crossover, enabling a zero to 60 mph time of under four seconds in the Wide Open Watts (WOW) acceleration setting. Additional performance-focused features include a specific sport-tuned chassis and Brembo front brakes.

2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV SS

GM has a winner with the current, ICE-powered Chevy Blazer, and the automaker is looking to bring that to the electric world with upcoming Blazer EV. We don’t see a reason that the EV model can’t achieve and even surpass the commercial success of the ICE-powered model.
