The Cadillac Lyriq is an important vehicle for the luxury marque as it slowly transitions to an all-electric portfolio by the end of the decade. As Cadillac’s first mass-production EV, it’s imperative that it stacks up favorably against its competition. Thankfully for GM, the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq has just been handed the 2023 Luxury Green Car of the Year award.
The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq has been recognized by Green Car Journal as the best luxury electric vehicle on sale today. The Lyriq beat out competitors like the Genesis GV60, Lexus RX, Mercedes-Benz EQB and Polestar 2 to take home the award. Overall, the Toyota Crown was named the 2023 Green Car of the Year.
For reference, Green Car Journal is a publication founded in 1992 that focuses on EVs and environmentally conscious vehicles.
This award follows on the heels of other GM products that have received similar Green Car Journal recognition. The 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV was the winner of the 2022 Urban Green Car of the Year award, beating out the likes of the Hyundai Kona Electric, Hyundai Venue, Kia Seltos and Mini Cooper SE. Additionally, the BrightDrop EV600 was named the 2022 Commercial Green Car of the Year, winning over the ELMS Urban Delivery EV, Ford E-Transit, Lightning eMotors Electric Van and Rivian Electric Delivery Van.
On top of these first-place finishes, the 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup was named a finalist for the 2022 Green Truck of the Year award. The all-electric supertruck was joined by four other finalists for the award, including the Ford F-150, Ford Maverick, Rivian R1T, and Toyota Tundra. An interesting note to make is that the Ford F-150, Ford Maverick, and Toyota Tundra were recognized for offering hybrid powerplant options. Meanwhile, the Rivian R1T is all-electric, just like the GMC Hummer EV.
As a reminder, the Cadillac Lyriq is powered by GM Ultium batteries and GM Ultium Drive motors, producing 340 horsepower with the rear-wheel drivetrain, and 500 horsepower in AWD configuration.
Under the skin, the crossover rides on the GM BEV3 platform, while production takes place at the GM Spring Hill plant in Tennessee.

Congratulations to GM and Cadillac! The Lyric is the best electric luxury vehicle in the world!
I fond the lyrics to have some notable short coming compared to other brands, such as battery efficiency. Yet in terms of design, build quality and interior it is a very compelling vehicle. Good job Cadillac.
Battery efficiency? Explain your position
It’s the greenest because they aren’t being built and they aren’t on the road. Zero production Zero road use=GREEN
I’m still waiting on mine. Impatiently I might add! 😒
IF GM ever remembers how to run a production line – it will be great to finally get mine…. Car seems like an excellent value – between $10,000 and $20,000 cheaper than the competition – which is mostly European currently.
I don’t think I’ll be buying a German car anytime soon since their Chemical and Steel Factories, and Aluminum Smelters are all shutting down… Germans will be busy scrounging for food since a big lack of fertilizer also.
I wouldn’t want to pay extra for a German car if all its spare parts will be in the future made in China…. I might as well save money and get the same thing with a Lyriq for a lot less!
Congratulations Cadillac.
I have to say I finally seen one in person. It was in Brooklyn nyc and is has a beautiful dominating road presence and the lighting looks absolutely gorgeous at night. I’m glad it won. It makes any Tesla look outdated.
I put a deposit down on a Lyriq AWD (opulent blue metallic) last May. I look forward to seeing mine before I die of old age.
I ordered the same Blue Lyriq back May 19th. Finally saw one a week ago at my dealership while GM experts answered questions.
To my disappointment they said it will be a while for any more blue LYRIQs.
The AWD model hasn’t yet gone into production. We’re looking at Spring of 2023.
