C7 Corvette Wheel Stolen In Less Than A Minute: Video

We’ve all seen some quick wheel changes in motorsport, but now, we’re watching as a group of alleged thieves take less than a minute to steal a wheel off a C7 Corvette in the following brief video.

The video was recently posted online by the Southlake Police Department out of Southlake, Texas, and was captured (ironically enough) by a Tesla parked nearby. The video shows a black Dodge Charger pulled up next to a white C7 Corvette in the lot at 301 North Nolen Drive on November 3rd, 2022. Most of the parking lot is empty, so it’s a bit odd to see the Charger parked so close to the C7 Corvette.

As the video gets underway, we see an individual exit the front passenger-side of the vehicle and casually walk around to the rear of the Charger, where the trunk pops open. The rear passenger-side door opens and another individual exits. Within seconds, the first individual has a jack underneath the C7 Corvette, while the second individual assists by grabbing the jack handle and an impact wrench.

The two quickly get the C7 Corvette lifted, removing the lug nuts from one of the rear wheels. The Vette’s taillights start to flash, indicating the car alarm was activated, but it doesn’t matter as a third individual grabs the wheel and tosses it into the trunk of the Dodge Charger.

The coordination that goes into stealing the wheel is obvious, with each individual handling their role quickly, smoothly, and somewhat casually. In less than a minute, the wheel is removed, the car is lowered onto a brick, the jack is thrown in back, and the Dodge Charger exits the parking lot.

According to the video description, the wheel and tire are valued at a combined $700. The video description also points out that police have run the plates on the Dodge Charger, and asks that anyone with further information on the alleged thieves contact the Southlake Police Department.

  9. I read this story about a week ago elsewhere and that article stated the loss at $1600. A new rear tire is in the range of $600 – $800 plus the value of the wheel which is probably around another $900+-. Also, the idiots lowered the car on the ground which I’m sure damaged the brake rotor. Add in towing and call it $2000+.

    1. Correct.

You can see that this Vette is a C7 Stingray and the rear tires are 285 series. I own a C7 GS and my rear tires are 335 series and the fronts are 285’s. I put four new “meats” on it this past spring and the fronts were ~$400/each (Michelin Pilot Super Sport-High Performance Summer Only). C7 Stingray rear wheels are ~$700-800/each.

These pieces of trash made out with a good bit of money. 🙁

  10. In this situation I would shoot them dead on the spot . Then I would use their equipment to reinstall the wheel . Then I would take some pictures of their dead bodies . Black lives matter & when you choose to be a crook you die like a pig. And then I would light their car on fire with them together .
Why do I go to jail for that?
    That’s what’s wrong with America!

  13. Wheel locks aren’t fool proof, but maybe would have been enough to deter these criminals from doing this. Odds are they will keep coming back until they have the whole set. Might be kind of fun to have airtags attached inside each wheel and know exactly where these fools are.

    1. Wheel locks vary in security. Some are just nuts with a shape on the top and slick sides, those are largely useless. Wheel theft was so prevalent in the UK that their equivalent to the IIHS, Thatcham, started certifying wheel locks, which result in a very good level of security. Those have free-spinning mechanisms that rely on actual lock action.

While it’s good to park away from other parked cars traffic, parking too far away
makes your car stand out too much, like in this case.
