GM revealed the 2024 Chevy Trax this past October, pulling the sheets on an all-new entry-level vehicle for the small crossover segment. When it goes on sale next spring, the new Trax will be sold alongside the Chevy Trailblazer, and with that in mind, we’re taking a look at how the two crossovers compare in terms of exterior dimensions.
From the off, it should be mentioned that both the 2024 Chevy Trax and 2023 Chevy Trailblazer ride on the GM VSS-F vehicle set, and although the exterior dimensions are similar, they are certainly not identical. The wheelbase, for example, is significantly longer for the Trax, measuring in at 106.3 inches as compared to 103.9 inches for the Trailblazer. Overall length is also considerably longer for the Trax, measuring in at 178.6 inches, as compared to 173.5 inches for the Trailblazer. Overall width is a bit closer at 71.8 inches for the Trax and 71.2 inches for the Trailblazer, while overall height varies within the individual model ranges, with the Trax measured at 61.4 inches to 61.7 inches, and the Trailblazer measured at 64.8 inches to 65.7 inches.
Check out the table below for a breakdown of the 2024 Chevy Trax exterior dimensions and 2023 Chevy Trailblazer exterior dimensions, as well as the exterior dimensions for several other Chevy crossovers for the sake of comparison:
Wheelbase (in.) | Length (in.) | Width (in.) | Height (in.) | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Groove | 100.4 | 166.1 | 68.5 | 63.6 |
2022 Trax | 100.6 | 167.6 | 69.9 | 64.9 to 66.3 |
Tracker | 101.2 | 168.1 | 70.5 | 63.2 |
Trailblazer | 103.9 | 173.5 | 71.2 | 64.8 to 65.7 |
2024 Trax | 106.3 | 178.6 | 71.8 | 61.4 to 61.7 |
Equinox | 107.3 | 183.1 | 72.6 | 65.4 |
Captiva | 108.3 | 185.4 | 72.2 | 68.9 |
Blazer | 112.7 | 191.4 | 76.7 | 67.0 |
3-Row Blazer | 112.7 | 196.8 | 76.9 | 67.9 |
Traverse | 120.9 | 205.9 | 78.6 | 70.7 |
With both the 2024 Chevy Trax and 2023 Chevy Trailblazer slotting into the same segment, some may predict that the two models may trip over one another when it comes to sales. However, as GM Authority covered previously, GM has a counter argument to that prediction, underlining how the Trax and Trailblazer appeal to different customers.
Part of the differentiation comes down to the exterior dimensions, with the Trailblazer’s taller overall height pairing with its all-wheel drive capability to offer customers more of a light off-roading appeal, especially in the Activ trim level. By comparison, the 2024 Chevy Trax is framed as appealing to customers that want the practicality of a sedan and the versatility of a utility, but with “lower, leaner proportions.”

I originally liked the Trailblazer but the new Trax appeals to me more now. Sad it’s not available with awd. That is an issue.
If it doesn’t have a 1.4t or greater and 9spd transmission it will be quickly crossed off any list of vehicles I’d consider. Still very happy and content with my 2013 6mt hatch sonic approaching 200k miles. Would consider the Trailblazer a downgrade after test drives.
The 2.4 inch difference in wheelbase hardly seems significant, certainly not enough to justify two completely different vehicles on the same chassis. The added complexity and exacting tire requirements of AWD systems are a huge turnoff, and I find FWD quite adequate for light off-road and winter travel. I would choose the Trax for the sleeker, low profile, but it must offer a free-breather and manual transmission. Simplicity promotes durability.
Trax with AWD and Equinox’ 1.5 4 cyl turbo would be sweet ride.
