2023 GMC Sierra Gets Limited Wireless Phone Charging Availability

The 2023 GMC Sierra represents the fifth model year of the current fifth-generation light-duty pickup, introducing a handful of updates and changes compared to the preceding, refreshed 2022 Sierra models. Now, however, GM Authority has learned some Sierra 1500 units will have to make do without the wireless phone charging feature.

Starting with October 26th production, some 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 units are being built without wireless charging (RPO code K4C). Affected vehicles are identified with the RPO Code 00C on the window sticker, and no retrofit is available or planned at this time.

It’s worth noting that wireless phone charging is normally equipped as standard on AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate trim levels. Meanwhile, wireless charging is usually optional on Elevation and SLT trims, and not available at all on Pro or SLE trim levels.

As context, GM also limited wireless phone charging on select units of the 2023 Chevy Tahoe and Chevy Suburban. Additionally, some units of the 2023 Sierra 1500 were built without function power outlets, as well as ventilated seat blower motors. However, it’s worth noting that some limitations have been lifted, as Super Cruise is now available to be ordered again.

As a reminder, the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 is available with three engine options. These include the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and finally the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine, rated at 277 horsepower at and 460 pound-feet of torque.

Under the skin, 2023 Sierra rides on the GM T1 platform, which it shares with all of GM’s full-size SUVs and pickup trucks. Meanwhile, production takes place at the GM Arlington plant in Texas.

  1. Purely speculation on my part, but I would imagine an aftermarket magsafe or qi wireless charger works better anyway. Does anyone know what wattage the OEM one uses? Still kinda hard to imagine there being a shortage of these as they are all over Amazon. I have a feeling this is just a cost cutting measure.

    1. The article also forgets the 4th engine, the 2.7L Turbo.

    1. First world problems! How have those of us without heated seats and heated steering wheels survived the cold winters in the snowbelt and northern United States??

      1. While they are first world problems, you have to understand how someone can be upset when they pay for the option, are told it will be fixed, and it doesn’t get fixed.

        1. Very true. However, GM never stated the retrofits would be completed by a specific date.

So if the credit they received at the time of purchase was adequate, why is there a sudden problem now?

Let’s get some perspective here. The buyers were aware of the missing parts up front before ever signing the deal. They were content then. There’s no reason they shouldn’t be content now.

          It’s all about entitlement.

          1. I get what you’re saying. I think it’s about the timing they were told the retrofits would be done by. Lots of people were told it would be retrofitted by Q3, and that didn’t happen. Not like effects me, my truck is still at the factory after having been built in June.

            1. Was it the dealer that quoted those times or GM. I haven’t seen anything official that stipulated when the retrofits would be complete.

My AT4 was built in June as well. Finally cleared quality in September but there’s been no word on it shipping. Thinking there are still missing parts.

  4. Y’all for 83 thousand dollars who need wireless charging, what is wrong with you folks, quit drinking the kool-Aid! As long as these auto makers can sell you a truck for more and more they will, do you really think these trucks are worth that kind of money, I don’t

  5. I have a new 2023 Sierra Denali 1500, fully loaded. My iPhone 12 Pro, with Otter Box case will not charge. So, I bought a new case that said it would charge. Wrong. It too does not charge. It starts to charge for about 5 seconds, then disconnects. Tried it every which way and no luck. I then took the case off. No difference. The wireless charging is a zero in my opinion.

  6. Will there be a retrofit for wireless charging in the 2023 GMC AT4 or do you go aftermarket?
