2023 GMC Canyon Denali In Deep Bronze Metallic: First Real-World Pictures

The 2023 GMC Canyon introduces a new generation for the mid-size pickup. Along with a new exterior, an overhauled interior, and an all-new powertrain, the all-new Canyon also receives a few new colors. GM Authority have just captured this example sporting the new Deep Bronze Metallic hue.

Spotted undergoing validation testing, this 2023 GMC Canyon is finished in the Denali trim level, and painted in the Deep Metallic Bronze (Color Code GXN) shade. This particular example is also rocking 20-inch Diamond Cut Dark Grey Aluminum wheels (RPO Code RD4), fixed five-inch rectangular Chrome assist steps (E15), and front LED fog lamps (T40), all of which are standard on the Denali trim. Additionally, this Canyon is also equipped with the optional power sunroof (CAC).

With the introduction of a new generation, the 2023 GMC Canyon receives more than just a few new colors. The exterior is all-new, resulting in a more premium and imposing look. Meanwhile, the interior was given a complete overhaul, and features an 11.3-inch diagonal color infotainment screen and an eight-inch diagonal digital color instrument display.

As for the powertrain, the all-new Canyon will receive the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, the same engine that originally launched with the 2019 Chevy Silverado and 2019 GMC Sierra. The L3B will serve as the sole engine option for the mid-size pickup. Unlike the 2023 Chevy Colorado, which receives three different tunes of the engine depending on trim level, the 2023 Canyon is only available with the top 2.7L Turbo High Output tune, rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque.

The only transmission available is the new, second-generation GM eight-speed automatic transmission.

Production of the 2023 GMC Canyon will commence on January 25th, 2023 at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri. The Canyon rides on an overhauled version of the same GMT 31XX platform used by the previous generation. Known internally within GM as 31XX-2, the updated architecture As GM Authority was first to report last week, the platform has been reworked to include a longer wheelbase, a new front end and a healthy portion of the rear end. The architecture will continue to be shared with the Canyon’s corporate platform-mate, the 2023 Chevy Colorado.

Official pricing details will follow closer to the start of production.

  2. There is only one engine and one trans. You guys should have posted the MPG rating, it is a very important factor in gas prices. one engine and trans, MPG posting is not that hard to do.

    1. That’s right. They don’t wanna publish it cause it gets almost the same mpg as a full size V8.

    2. They can not post final numbers till they are done. Testing often goes right till production starts.

    3. In the US, only EPA-approved fuel economy numbers can be advertised. If it isn’t on fueleconomy.gov, it’s still in the process, and they can’t say.

Unlike some other countries, EPA selects and tests cars themselves in their own lab in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This avoids blatant cheating, like they had in Japan.

Also, it’s not one engine and one transmission. There’s 3 variants: base (273 hp/260 tq), turbo plus (310 hp/391 tq), and HO (310 hp/430 tq). The non-base engines go to their own transmission variant. On top of that, 4×4, and wheels, and off-road suspensions all affect fuel economy.

  3. Looks eons better than the Colorado even in this color. It looks like it’s from the year 2030 but how a truck should look proportionately

  4. I wonder why GM didn’t shorten the LZ0 to a 5 or 4 cylinder diesel? I’ve seen it done on many engines in the past, and a second choice of power (especially a diesel) power plant would potentially be a great addition. A 5 cylinder with the popularity of LM2 and LZ0 is a no-brainer and a guaranteed success.

    1. They may yet. Key is to see what happens over seas. Remember the 2.8 duramax shared its R&D with the Colorado/S10 in Australia/Brazil and Southeast Asia. If they choose to update the engines abroad, I’d bet we’d see a new generation diesel over here. If not, the current 2.8 offers no advantages over the 2.7 turbo, and probably won’t beat it in mpg when we get that result back.

  5. Well in all honesty when buying a pickup truck we are not going to get great fuel mileage. Heavy vehicles burn more fuel even if it comes with a four. So the up and down vote is going to be choosing a Toyota Tacoma with a 3.5 V6 over A 2.7 4 banger turbo. The Toyota does come standard with safety features. And the gm 8 speed trany has been a disappointment. Would you buy a Toyota instead.

    1. GMC has confirmed all 2023 Canyon models/trims will only be available
with the 2.7 HO 310Hp/430tq motor with 8 speed
Transmission, 2023 Chevy Colorados we’ll have the three different 2.7 turbo engine variants

  7. What ever happened to going with the Rear Independent Suspension, (IRS- GM-T1, GM T-1xxx)? It was implemented for the Escalade but has since disappeared from the truck lineup. I understand there were problems with the Electric Vehicles. I and others were looking forward to the IRS like they had back in the day on 1/2-ton trucks.

  9. Rick chaffing if you think this truck is ugly check out the Toyota tundra or Nissan frontier… Both are disgusting to look at 🤮🤮… .also the Ford Maverick everyone is “raving” about is cheap looking and not a real truck… Just like the just like the awful Hyundai Santa Cruz try putting plywood sheets in that bed.

  10. Right out the gate, this represents GM giving the people what it wants them to have rather than what the people actually want. I predict that after the first wave of buyers [excited by a new product offering], the bulk of GMC’s sales for this truck over its run will be municipalities and retirees. With a restricted engine offering and only ONE bed size, GM has JUST confirmed that this pickup will NEVER rest in my driveway. Because it at least comes standard with a V-6 and a long bed option, I’m considering the new Nissan Frontier instead. Thanks alot, GM.

  13. I do not like the new look over the 2022 canyon/colorado. I like my white colorado Wt plus it was cheaper and I got the v6….prices are way to high for these trucks. I do not see where the truck was improved over the 2022….at least look wise…

  14. Does anyone know when the 2023 Canyon Denali can be ordered?

    Reply
    1. Probably NEVER, So tired of General Motors promising but never deliver. I am hearing also service after the sale is out the window. We went to the St. Louis Auto Show yesterday (1-14-23) only to find out GMC failed to show. Chevrolet was there with a poor selection. The whole show was a JOKE. So tired of these big companies and their FILL MY POCKETS and the hell with the consumer.
