The 2023 Chevy Colorado introduces an all-new third generation for the nameplate. It welcomes new exterior styling, an overhauled interior and some powertrain updates, among other things. Today, we’re taking a look at the availability of a new headlight type for the midsize pickup truck.
The 2023 Colorado will introduce new LED headlamps (RPO code T4L), which equipped as standard on Z71 and ZR2 trim levels, while being part of the LT Convenience Package III (PDB) on the LT trim. Notably, these headlamps are not available at all for the Work Truck (WT) and Trail Boss editions. The headlight clusters also integrate LED daytime running lamps and are accompanied by LED fog lamps, replacing the standard halogen setup.
The LT Convenience Package III includes the following (relevant RPO Codes in parentheses):
- Evotex up-level seating (HXR)
- Driver seat back pocket (E90)
- Rear center armrest (DA5)
- Dual front console USB charger (UBI)
- Heated steering wheel (KI3)
- LED headlamps (T4L)
- LED daytime running lights (T7E)
- LED taillamps (T93)
- 18-inch Dark full gloss aluminum wheels (PZI)
- 120V rear power outlet (KI6)
- 120V bed mounted power outlet (KC9)
- Side Blind Zone Alert and Steering Assist (UKI)
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Braking (UFB)
- Rear Park Assist (UD7)
As extensive as the list is for the PDB package, the LT Convenience Package II (PCV) must first be checked-off before customers can choose it. As such, the LT Convenience Package II contains the following (relevant RPO Codes in parentheses):
- Eight-way power driver seat (A2X)
- Driver seat power lumbar (AL9)
- Heated front seats (KA1)
- Remote start (BTV)
- Auto dimming inside rearview mirror (DD8)
- 2.7 Turbo Plus engine (L3B)
- Wireless phone charging (K4C)
- Heated outside rearview mirror (DLF)
- Full-size spare wheel (RM7)
- Spare tire (ZOA)
So, this means that in order to get the LED headlights on a 2023 Chevy Colorado LT, buyers must choose both these convenience packages.
Order banks are now open for any prospective buyers, although pricing has not yet been announced.
As for powerplants, the 2023 Chevy Colorado will receive one engine block, but in three different states of tune. The turbocharged 2.7L I4 L2R engine is rated at 237 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, and is standard on the Work Truck and LT trims. Originally introduced for the 2019 Chevy Silverado and 2019 GMC Sierra, the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine develops 310 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque in 2.7L Turbo Plus tune, and is standard on the Z71 and Trail Boss, while optional for WT and LT. Finally, the High-Output version of the L3B engine produces 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, and will be the standard engine for the Colorado ZR2.
The second-gen GM 8-speed automatic transmission serves as the only transmission.

With the costs of new vehicles these days, it is absolutely unacceptable that manufacturers don’t equip every vehicle with LED headlights, taillights, turn signals, etc. I can’t imagine the cost would be much higher than some of the other garbage options they cram into vehicles (yes, I know the Hummer has a taillight that costs almost $3000, but that is mostly design, not function, plus it is on a vehicle that costs over $100k).
I mean I am able to purchase LED replacement headlight bulbs from any parts store these days it seems, so why not.
LED headlights along with all the other lighting should be LED. This is supposed to be the “ALL NEW” Chevy Colorado for 2023 that they’ve been raving about for the past year, yet GM still cheaps out on things like lighting. Go figure?
I contacted my dealer about building a Z71, nowhere is a Power Rear Sliding window listed on the build sheet. He is contacting GM to see if one is available. Sunroof is now available, but no rear power slider? Doesn’t seem possible.
It is not anywhere in the 80 page order guide. I was hoping for one as well. Also no power folding mirrors.
Ram has both as options at virtually all trim levels. Why doesn’t GM?
A Ram isn’t a “mid-size” pickup. The Ford Ranger and Nissan Frontier don’t have power sliding rear windows either.
I don’t know how true it is, but I’ve heard complaints that the power sliding rear window is a theft problem, being easy to pry open.
You wouldn’t happen to have a link to this order guide, would you?
Where is the 80 page order guide?
I was at the local GMC dealer yesterday and they don’t know anything about a power sliding rear window either, makes absolutely no sense not to have that option.
Those dinky sliding rear windows are pointless especially on a crew cab.
You have rear windows which have like 15x the surface area.
That rear sliding window is worthless without a power switch. I have had 3 Colorado’s and have never used it because of no power switch. If no power switch GM needs to save the money and not put the slider in the truck.
I traded for a 2021 Sierra almost two years ago that had the power switch on the slider and have used it several times. Makes no sense not to have a power switch.
My 2019 Silverado had one as well as my friends Tacoma. It’s standard equipment on a Tacoma Limited. Hoping the dealer gets an answer from GM. It could be a deal breaker. With all the engineering that allegedly went into updating the truck, I find it hard to believe that it was missed. I am not going to climb into the back seat to open the window, which I used daily on the Silverado. I just returned the Silverado off lease in hopes of getting an equally equipped Colorado in the next few months. See what happens.
The Colorado doesn’t have a power sliding rear window. It also doesn’t have physical buttons/dials to control the head lights, which I would then assume no buttons/dials to control the fog lights if equipped.
Rear window I don’t necessarily care about, although I believe its dumb not to be power, but no physical buttons for the head lights, and in turn fog lamps, that’s a deal breaker for me.
And what are you basing your comment on that there are no light switches? I call Fake News! Just because you can’t find them in a pic doesn’t mean they don’t exist.
There’s a TFL video showing that the only way to control the lights is through the infotainment screen.
If that is so, it’s really, really dumb.
not fake news at all. what it is, is your ignorance on the subject.
That’s a deal breaker? Haha, ok, the things people say are deal breakers this is up there. No LED taillights was one of the funniest I have seen.
It looks enough like a Tacoma. Maybe cover the bow tie for the full effect.
It is certainly without a doubt that the styling is inspired by the hottest selling truck in the segment, however the GM trucks have a seemingly shorter overhang making them look less like they have a huge Proboscis.
Where does one find the “order bank” for the new Colorado that the article says is open ?
At your local dealer.
Thank you very much – been bugging the dealer for a month about when this would be available – all to no avail. So you cannot order yet – just look the build information over since there is no pricing – is that correct ?
I believe they can put the order in the system, and GM can see what configurations that people want, but the order won’t be picked up for manufacturing until pricing is released and the allocation/consensus system starts, in late January according to GM Authority.
The advantage is the dealer can configure the vehicle and have you sign off on it to save time when the allocation system starts.
If you just want to see configuration info, it’s released to the public, just search “gm online order guide”
Hi sorry this a little off topic but has anyone with a 2022 zr2 been able to use the factory mudflaps thatfit on a z71 colorado.Oh sorry that is a 2022 zr2 Colorado .The black plastic trim seems to interfere with the mudflaps.
Look you complain if they don’t give you all you want and if they do give you all you want then you complain about the price.
Look the mid size class trucks are a problem for MFGs. They are difficult to price to where they do not step own the full size models and to get them cheap enough then it is hard to make a buck on them. The cost to build a mid size is almost the cost to build a full size. This was clearly stated by the manager of the Ranger program.
It used to be trucks like the S10 shared much with a A body sedan and it saved engineering cost and other related cost.
Today little is shared with any other model and that creates a scale issue to where they can not share costs.
While the LED lights and Electric slider appear to be low cost items all this stuff adds up. The trouble is most buyers will not spend over $40K for these trucks.
The LT is the biggest seller as it is the best priced models with option packages that can keep it in the mid $30 to as low as $28K for a 2wd V6.
Look the lights are not exactly like a 50 Ford 6 Volt and work well.
We will have to watch here as it looks like the ZR may still be at a $45K price while the GMC AT4X is going over $63K. Will it sell? I expect at first a few but I expect they will not be a big seller.
These trucks all have corners they cut. The Tacoma has always has rust issues. The Ford even at $45K did not have leather seats and steps while the GMC came with them.
The Ranger still offers the crappy single piston brakes while the GM trucks have 4 piston calipers on the front.
I would rather take the big brakes and if I have to have LED just pop in the after market ones.
As for the light switch not on the dash. I have had my Canyon since 2017 and only used the switch for the driving lights. I have never turned on or off the lights in this truck. To be honest I would have to look to see what to do as they are automatic!
This is a good truck and it is well built with better brakes and suspensions. It will have a better ride and handling as the old one did. I would rather have that then a rear power rear window.
There is only so much money that can go into these vehicles to keep the price down and the profits to where it is worth selling them.
This is why some MFGs are pushing these crappy FWD based CUV models as they are shared platforms and they cut many corners to keep the price down. When you base a model on a Cheap Escape it is basically a Escape with a bed.
gm needs to give what the customer is requesting in all models. Don’t force a customer to up sell to a model they don’t need to make a few more thousand dollars.
Hamburger or cheeseburger…
You can get most anything you want but you may have to step up a trim level or a thousand or two option package to get that one option.
The 70s have left the room.
