Midsize GMC Hummer EV Pickup Under Consideration

GM is considering the development of a new midsize GMC Hummer EV Pickup model to be sold alongside the full-size Pickup and SUV already revealed.

According to a recent report from Bloomberg, which cites anonymous sources familiar with the matter, a smaller all-electric GMC Hummer EV Pickup is already in the design concept stage at GM’s studio in California. Sources say that the project is considered a “priority,” and is likely to get the green light for full-fledged production.

The report goes on to state that GM sees the Hummer brand as commanding a strong following and recognition among customers, and that a smaller Hummer EV model is the next logical step.

Such a move would certainly not be without precedent, given models like the H2 and H3 released after the commercial success of the original Hummer H1. What’s more, the development of a smaller GMC Hummer EV may help the brand break into the European market, as indicated in previous reports. GM exited the European market in 2017 after offloading the Opel and Vauxhall brands to Peugeot-owner Groupe PSA for $2.2 billion.

Now, new developments appear to be swirling following the success of the new full-size GMC Hummer EV Pickup and SUV. As GM Authority reported previously, GM is now holding a whopping 90,000 reservations for the GMC Hummer EV, with that total accounting for both the Pickup and SUV body styles. With 90,000 reservations now on the books, GM announced in September that it was no longer taking further reservations.

GM says that new units of the GMC Hummer EV are being built and shipped daily from the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan. Production initially got under way late last year.

As a reminder, the GMC Hummer EV is based on the GM BT1 platform and utilizes GM Ultium battery technology and GM Ultium drive motor technology.

I know there are different markets for different vehicles, but isn’t a small Hummer EV competition against the Silverado EV and Sierra EV? Am I wrong here? I’m also not quite sold on the idea that Europe is dying to buy a mini Hummer, especially given the economic circumstances facing Europe right now.

Sierra and Silverado EVs will be similar in size to the existing Hummer EV.

A smaller Hummer could be similar in size to the Canyon/Colorado

Make this similar in size to the Canyon/Colorado and make a truck and SUV version and you have the perfect Gladator/Wrangler competitors.

An EV version would put them to shame and really force Stellantis to improve on those products. And considering the prices jeep wants for those models, could be nicely profitable.

Viola, the GM version of the Jeeps everyone has been begging for.

With an ICE please, that’s what we’ve been begging for.

Do it. Do it. Do it.
Also, GM needs to make a Bronco/Wrangler competitor as well.

De-ja-vu. H2 and H3 all over again. How did that experiment work out for GM?

Good luck with that. They will likely be garage queen grocery getters too. They can’t be considered seriously for off-reading now that we know you can’t get them wet. Except maybe for desert dwellers.

Fold down mid gate and 2nd row seat that would work , have at least 6’ cargo bay I’d look at one . Long as the wheel base is not to long like the jeep gladiator
