People who are involved in car accidents, understandably, can experience potentially negative psychological effects as a result of such incidents. To better understand these effects, OnStar and six UAE-based artists teamed up to provide a visual representation of the challenges and stressors a car accident can have on a person by evoking a real-world picture of a sensitive subject.
The locally based UAE artists, Hamad Al Humaidhan, Kristel Bechara, Galina Gorlova, Simon Kazanjian, Sumayyah Al Suwaidi and Asma Al Remeithi, were provided real-life emergency calls and accident visuals from OnStar to inspire their works. The artists produced a wide-ranging set of individualistic pieces, spanning from traditional paint to sequential, abstract and digitally designed styles. These pieces demonstrate the shock, panic and unhindered emotion a car accident can create. Through the artwork, the artists allow the audience to remove the unease around the subject matter, instead allowing for understanding and empathy for those affected.
Hamad Al Humaidhan, one of the artists who participated in the project, “Road safety is a serious topic. I know art is strong and loud, so hopefully a painting of mine can raise awareness and bring to light the consequences of reckless driving.”
OnStar has only been offered for the Middle East since last December. Since then, GM has performed other initiatives to entice UAE buyers to opt for the service, including a study that draws data from 46 UAE participants. The study asked them to revisit an accident they’d experienced, share this experience and their emotional responses to the incidents, as well as their perceptions of driving and existing safety features.
These initiatives follow earlier strides by GM to rebrand its OnStar service as a whole. GM Authority reported that GM announced an expansion of the OnStar safety and security subscription services, with OnStar Guardian now available for motorcycles, as well as integration with Amazon Alexa for at-home use. The OnStar Guardian service provides a variety of functions and features, such as mobile crash response, roadside assistance, emergency services, and location status.
