GMC Hummer EV Pickup, SUV Sold Out For At Least Two Years

The 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup has been a hot ticket item since it was formally revealed and subsequently launched. Unfortunately, production capabilities haven’t been able to keep up with demand, and many prospective buyers have been put on waitlists. Now, it looks like they may have to wait even longer.

During a media briefing ahead of the 2024 GMC Sierra EV reveal attended by GM Authority, Buick and GMC Global Vice President Duncan Aldred said the Hummer EV, in both Pickup and SUV formats, is “sold out for two years or more.”

This should come as no surprise, as GM currently holds 90,000 reservations of the Hummer EV, both in Pickup and SUV flavors. As such, GM also hasn’t been taking any new orders for the all-electric supertruck and SUV since last month.

For reference, GM has only produced 2,570 units of the Hummer EV Pickup as of September 2022, a far-cry from the 90,000 units needed just to meet reservations. However, production has been picking up as of late, as GM produced 700 Hummer EV Pickups in September, which represents almost 30 percent of all units built. In order to meet demand, this growth needs to continue, which will be facilitated by the opening of the first Ultium Cells plant in Ohio. Unfortunately, GM has also announced that Hummer EV production will be idled for November as the plant undergoes upgrades to produce future products.

As a reminder, 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup production began late last year at the GM Factory Zero plant (née GM Detroit-Hamtramck plant) in Michigan. Output is sourced from GM Ultium batteries and GM Ultium Drive motors, with the Hummer EV Pickup Edition 1 model producing 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 pound-feet torque.

Under the skin, the GMC Hummer EV Pickup and the GMC Hummer EV SUV both ride on GM’s dedicated “body-on-battery” or “Ulti-body” electric BT1 platform. A different version of the same architecture also underpins the upcoming Chevy Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV.

      1. If you think that by switching to EV’s, the world will be saved, please stop and think about this question:

In order to charge your EV, you need electricity. Does your local power plant generate electricity with electricity? Or does it use another type of fuel? Don’t hurt yourself trying to come up with an answer…

Just because your precious new EV doesn’t have emissions coming from the tailpipe doesn’t translate into clean energy. There are emissions coming from somewhere (power plant?) and there is pollution from the mines used to harvest the raw materials for the batteries.

        1. Still cleaner than extracting and refining crude oil. You don’t have a disastrous cobalt or lithium spill in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico or the arctic if not properly extracted.

Also, not every power plant is coal burning. Many of those plants are shuttering as coal usage is falling in the US and has been for decades.

Hydroelectric, biomass, and nuclear plants are pretty common. Also solar & wind turbines are pretty efficient these days.

That being said, electric cars are not the environmental solution the car companies are selling them as. They’re a stopgap.
Good Mass transit is the solution but that’s a four-letter word in the US.

        2. And how do you think the raw materials are mined for your ICE junk? No pollution there? What about the electricity at the gas pump. Where does that com from? Dummy!

      4. Yeah, EVs are made by fairies and the same fairies produce the power to charge them. Don’t be the Pot pointing the finger at the Kettle.

  4. GM has been telling us about the Hummer and other electric vehicles over a year now and I have not seen any on the road yet I do see more Teslas and more Prius on the road now. Prius is a hybrid though.

    1. Teslas and Hummer EVs are apples to oranges. Also, Teslas are way more cheaper to purchase anymore and been in business since 2008 with the Roadster.

I have not seen the Hummer EV also but had seen the Rivian three times on the road which the price is not far off compared to the Hummer.
