GM is ramping up its all-electric vehicle production efforts, including for the Chevy Bolt EV and Chevy Bolt EUV, with The General planning to produce 70,000 new Bolts next year.
According to a recent report from Reuters, GM said that it would boost Bolt production for global markets to 70,000 units in 2023 from roughly 44,000 units for 2022. The production increase for the Chevy Bolt EV and Chevy Bolt EUV coincides with further production increases for other GM EV models, including the Cadillac Lyriq, while a slew of new GM EV models are now headed down the pipe, including the Chevy Silverado EV, Chevy Blazer EV, and Chevy Equinox EV.
The Chevy Bolt EV recently posted its best quarterly sales ever at 14,709 units for Q3 of the 2022 calendar year, a massive 576.58-percent sales increase compared to the same time period in 2021.
Sales Numbers - Chevy Bolt - Q3 2022 - USA
MODEL | Q3 22 / Q3 21 | Q3 22 | Q3 21 | YTD 22 / YTD 21 | YTD 22 | YTD 21 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
BOLT EV | +62.37% | 3,530 | 2,174 | -72.06% | 6,163 | 22,056 |
BOLT EUV | +377.53% | 11,179 | 2,341 | +476.96% | 15,849 | 2,747 |
TOTAL | +225.78% | 14,709 | 4,515 | -11.25% | 22,012 | 24,803 |
Notably, Chevy Bolt sales were nearly non-existent late last year due to multiple recalls and stop-sale orders for both the Bolt EV and EUV, which were issued as a result of multiple vehicle fires tied to a defect in the models’ battery pack. GM ended up recalling all units of the Chevy Bolt EV and Bolt EUV in order to address the issue by replacing the potentially defective battery packs with new components.
As reported by Reuters, GM’s EV efforts still make up only a small portion of the automaker’s total vehicle sales, with an estimated 1.4 percent of GM’s 1.65 million U.S. vehicles sold through the first nine months of the 2022 calendar year being either a Chevy Bolt, GMC Hummer EV, or Cadillac Lyriq. Moving forward, GM has partnered with LG Energy to construct several new battery production facilities in the U.S., the first of which, located in Ohio, began production last month.

Will the Bolt EUV qualify for a federal tax credit in 2023?
so very few will qualify for the full 7500 , you only get that much if thats how much you owe in taxes , how many people out there owe 7500 in taxes ? if you owe that much in taxes, you must make a lot of money, and if you make that much money, you wont be looking at a bolt
OMG!!! This is such exciting news, but I do have 2 questions. How is it possible that gm is able to mass produce this thing when they are only able to produce 2 ZO6’s, FOR THE ENTIRE WOOOOORRRLD? Second question, do these things have a built-in fire suppression system, asking for the local fire department?
Maybe. Do Hyundai and Kia ICE vehicles have said fire suppression. After all there were over 3000 fires in those vehicles as opposed to less than 20 Bolts
Gm can ot prodice the Bolt fast enough to meet demand The only ones on dealer lots are the ones that have not yet had a battery replacement
Full disclosure, I drive a Bolt and love it
You know gas car fires occur regularly but you just dont read about them. Enough time wasted.
Those fire jokes are getting beyond tired, and the people making knowing them know that.
Yes Bill, one of them is Carl. He comments on everything. He is a troll with nothing better to do.
Hi. I recently purchased a new 2022 EUV in July. Is this car eligible for any incentives? I’m not too clear about this. Thanks for your feedback.
Stay confused.
Your name says it all. Nothing else to add!
I’ll wager they don’t make it anywhere close to 70k. They got 2 bolt models with the same year to date sales numbers as last year. When will the Malibu get increased production, oh yeah the Malibu is not profitable but the dead bolt is!
TR:
Yeah it will be interesting to see… My 1 1/2 year old BOLT EUV is still waiting for the new battery it was promised back then… They seriously have that much trouble manufacturing ONE battery?
I also have a supposedly ‘Very Available’ Cadillac LYRIQ on a FIRM ORDER. It will be over 1/2 year before they finally decide to manufacture it..
Of course, the 186 already made now need a new dashboard screen. Wonder how long that will push back production again?
I thought GM was required to manufacture at least one or two vehicles to be able to afford Mary Barra?
UPDATE: 1/3 year later – 2023 Caddy LYRIQ will be lucky if it gets here by April 19th, (11/12 of a year after a firm order). And GM abrogated the CONTRACT I had with them since they are subsituting a BLACK one since those are the only ones being made lately…
Battery for my June 2021 BOLT EUV supposedly getting here this June/July.
One things for sure: If they have supposedly manufactured over 8,000 LYRIQs in 2022, but only sold 122, then at this rate, they have a 66 year supply (60 days of inventory is considered optimal) of LYRIQs if they continue releasing them at this rate.
Who is actually buying these plastic crap boxes? Don’t get me wrong the interior of the Tesla model 3 and Y is total crap too. But the interior and overall size of the Bolt is just awful. They should have done or do more with the Malibu.
Around here, it’s old ladies driving CUVs.
Turns out you don’t speak for everyone, believe it or not. My wife loves the size of these and the fact we can put two car seats in the back easily, unlike her small car.
Personally, it’s not for me. But if she likes it who am I to say she is wrong? Sounds like you’re that guy though.
I’m 6-2 and 250 and perfectly comfortable in my 2020 Bolt. Even after a round trip from Detroit to Florida and had no comfort or room issues. I love the car. The ONLY down side I found so far is the charging speed, even at Super Chargers. They should have fixed that in the newer models.
M, have you driven one? I doubt it. I’m 6 ft. 2 and love the interior and the perfect size for me. Great car for the masses.
Who will buy them? I don’t know anyone who wants one. I guess they can sell them to the nuts in CA.
I just ordered one and it’s about a 6-month wait because there’s about 12 people in front of me in line waiting for theirs.
Where?
Ontario Canada
I love mine and I’m not anywhere near California.
“Massive 576% sales increase”. LOL
Even 576% of a small number is still a small number.
EV’s are the future. Stick your head in the ground and you will be run over.
Sorry, but I won’t be dictated to, especially regarding the vehicle I must drive, I am not a comrade.
You will eventually when ICE’s are no longer produced.
And they own the refineries. We complain about subsidies yet we continue to subsidize the oil industry for every well they drill let alone what we spent on the military to keep the water ways open in the ME at the tune of hundreds of billion of dollars especially over the last N years. Yet they complain about the few billion used to promote the next thing. They may burn fuels but understand the world and so should we move on at a normal pace that steps forward while getting of the old stuff. If they don’t like it then please throw out your tv and go back to tube tvs, throw out your streaming or dvd and go back to tape, throw out your cell phone which at one time btw was a brick size unit at 2k bought at first by the rich and go back to dial tones or better yet shared home phone service….they get the point. The world is moving on with or without us. We don’t want to be left behind such that we rely on total outsourcing to have them when we must. While they continue to complain about high fuel prices driving around by 1 person in a f250 I will gladly buy an EV paying just $2 or less charging at home 98% of the time and saving….and if you have solar paying NOTHING once the recovery costs is done…and yes mine has after just 6 years. But hey what do we know….laughing out loud.
Home solar is a scam except for maybe in the SW, it never pays back in most of the country. And two short years ago we were energy independent before the current regime destroyed our energy industry and economy. We have plenty of domestic energy for our needs, hopefully we can start returning to the good times beginning next month. In the meantime I will keep my ICE vehicles.
I can keep these running for decades, there will be new industries dedicated to it.
And they own the gas stations, refineries and the tax cost base that eventually go away not to mention how to fix them yourself when the elder mechanics are all gone! Times are changing like it or not. Me I am waiting for the equinox or blazer!
I sure wish they would finish fixing all of the old battery issues. My 2020 still doesn’t have it’s battery replaced. They are claiming they don’t have the new batteries. Of course not, they are going into the new ones.
Enjoy your current battery and get as much value out of it before getting a brand new one.
I wish GM would finish fixing the bad batteries in the Bolts under warranty before they ship out 70,000 new ones. My 2020 still does not have the battery replaced under the warranty due to lack of batteries.
If the Bolt EUV at least had 100kW DC Fast Charger it would sell like hotcakes.
Would be the perfect commuter vehicle. Unfortunately some people stretch their Budget to get more car than they actually need because they simply cannot have 50kW charging while on the go.
I feel like GM is missing a HUGE opportunity to control the small EV market and to make the Bolt a nameplate with staying power well into the Future.
I think his comment was deleted, but whomever said everything will change next month assumes no vote rigging will occur in 2020 as in 2016…. Since everyone still votes the same way – please tell me what has changed? I fully expect the dems to take over both House and Senate…
And they sell 270000 polluting crate performance engines that keep old junkers on the road
And GM performance sells 270000 polluting Performance engines To keep some old polluting junkers on the road
i think GM is afraid of building to many bolts, cause when the 2024 equinox comes out and its priced in the 30’s and will have more range and faster charging, I doubt many people will want the bolt, wouldnt make sense to buy it , unless they drop the price down close to the teens
i was going to buy a Bolt, but the only ones I’ve found, the dealers are adding 5 thousand or more to the sticker , and there is no vehicle on the planet that I would pay one dollar over sticker to get , but the more I think about it, i’m not sure buying one is a very good idea even at sticker . later this year GM is going to be putting out the Equinox EV, which will be priced about the same or close to it, it will have a bigger battery, a better battery, have more range and far faster charging, its a bigger vehicle, nicer looking , now when they release that, the resale on a Bolt will tank in a hurry, no one will be buying them and they will get killed on tradein value and have you ever looked un the rear end of a Bolt ? they rear suspension is pretty much built like a go cart. Ive been looking for one but now i’m not so sure , what do you all think ?

problem with GM is they have no honest dealers,, all this market adjustments and dealer add ons are just wrong, Ive told many dealers that there isn’t a car on this planet that is worth one dollar over sticker, I wont pay it and if you do you are crazy.
