GM has filed to trademark the GMC Granite name, GM Authority has learned.

This isn’t the first time GM has filed to register the GMC Granite trademark. In fact, this latest filing marks the fifth such time that GM has filed to trademark the name, with GM previously filing to trademark the name in April of 2019, May of 2015, November of 2010, and November of 2009.

Given GM has pursued this trademark for the last 13 years, it should be obvious The General has some sort of plan for it, or at the very least the intention to put it to use. One strong possibility is that it will be used in conjunction with a new subcompact GMC crossover slotting in below the GMC Terrain in the brand’s vehicle lineup.
In fact, back in 2010, GM unveiled the GMC Granite concept, debuting a futuristic four-seater that would suit the job well after getting a modern update. Speaking of which, GM Authority previously released a new GMC Granite rendering image based on GM VSS-F platform and drawing inspiration from the Buick Encore GX and Chevy Trailblazer, providing one possible direction that GM may take the trademark.
A few other possibilities are that the name will be used in conjunction with some sort of full-size SUV, or possibly a new off-road crossover. Either way, we’ll keep an eye on this and report back any new developments.
In further GM trademark news, GM recently filed to trademark the Coretec name for use in vehicle upholstery, the StowFlex name for use with a potential new pickup truck tailgate design, as well as the Chevy Cavalier name, hinting that The General may be considering the launch of a new small car model for the U.S. market.

Are the full size and off-roader possibilities based on credible rumors or just speculation?
The Granite Concept was very cool.
When it was first shown I thought the Granit looked cool, now when look at it after all this time it looks like a hamster looking back at me.
Electric
when i hear granite i think of a BOF vehicle. not some unibody 3 or 4 cyl fwd bs
A Mini Cooper and a Trailblazer walk into a bar…
GM is strong in this segment but needs the GMC to pick up some of Encore GT’s lost sales. Would be an easy reskin and give Big Red a Renagade rival
With the Acadia going back to fullsize the Granite might take the midsize position.
That’s a good thought. Hadn’t considered that.
If I had a quarter for every prediction that GMC was coming out with a smaller vehicle . . . . I still like the concept, it still looks fresh despite being 12-13 years old. Not so much a fan of the rendering off the TB/GX.
If someday GMC actually comes out with something smaller, I hope that use the new 1.5l engine and not the 1.2/1.3 currently in the TB.GX.
The 1.3L has more get up than the 1.5L. I’d take the 1.3L over the 1.5L anyday.
Another crossover mini suv? I guess for the 20-30k market ? Too bad they can’t build mini truck .
Gm is buying out buick dealers who don’t want to suicide themselves with an all-electric lineup. Most of those stores are also gmc dealers. They lose access to the buick encore/gx micro CUVs which sell well. Rebadge the encore as a gmc to appease the gmc dealers who need an entry-level offering. Voila! I present to you the Granite.
I believe the deal was if you don’t convert your store to accommodate electrics you won’t be able to sell them because they won’t ship them to your store. You can still sell ICE. But I may be wrong, so if someone remembers what was written feel free to correct.
GM should have ok’d the Granite concept for production. It received positive reviews and many people liked it’s chiseled looks and compact size.
Evo, it looked good 10 year ago, not so much anymore. Would’ve been a hit no doubt back then.
