The General unveiled the refreshed 2024 GMC Sierra HD earlier this month, pulling the sheets on a number of important updates and changes, including fresh exterior styling. Now, we’re getting an eyeful of some of the early 2024 GMC Sierra HD ideation sketches that inspired the final design.
Recently posted online to the General Motors Design social media feed (@generalmotorsdesign), the sketches focus primarily on the front end of the new 2024 GMC Sierra HD, and cover trim levels like the off-road-ready Sierra HD AT4, as well as the new range-topping Sierra HD Denali Ultimate.
The restyled front end of the 2024 GMC Sierra HD incorporates new headlamps highlighted by V-shaped daytime running lights that run horizontally across the corners of the fascia before bending downwards toward the middle of the fascia. This styling line is continued into the lower corners of the bumper with vertical lighting elements.
Between the restyled headlamps is a new grille, which once again plays to the truck’s natural proportions by incorporating horizontal slats that emphasize the truck’s visual width. Lower in the fascia is a set of prominent tow hooks set deep in the lower bumper, which show a silver finish on the GMC Sierra HD Denali Ultimate, and a red finish on the GMC Sierra HD AT4.
Looking over the photos, there’s little doubt that the refreshed 2024 GMC Sierra HD looks the part of a tall and tough heavy-duty pickup truck:

In addition to new styling, the 2024 GMC Sierra HD also introduces updates to the powertrain lineup, with the optional 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine now uprated to 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque, as compared to a max output rating of 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque prior to the refresh. The standard powerplant is once again the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine, which now mates to the Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission, rather than the GM six-speed automatic transmission equipped prior to the refresh.
Under the skin, the 2024 GMC Sierra HD once again rides on a more-capable variant of the GM T1 platform. Production will take place at the GM Flint plant in Michigan.

This is absolutely amazing.
The grill is definitely unique. Looks like something from my grandson’s LEGOs. Waiting to see if it grows on me some more.
Looks really sleek just change the mirrors, don’t care for those.
They look blocky like the rest of it.
I love the new design
“Military Grade”
The height of the hoods on recent pickup trucks are dangerous to vehicles that are low . . . like the C5 Corvette’s front end was smashed by a pickup truck like this, apparently the vision is terrible from those trucks. Probably, it is likely dangerous for pedestrians, also.
Should we solve our lifter problems in the 1/2 ton models? No just add some more chromium to the HD’s grill.
Those trucks look awesome!!
Now you know what would be more awesome??? If GM finished up their end of the 2022 sierra I bought back in March. Still no heated seats or wheel or other half a dozen options that I’ve payed for and still haven’t gotten yet. Spent 100k on a truck that still doesn’t have heated seats yet or no news from GM on when I’ll have it. Wow. Terrible.
The look this truck has, it’s like in fell out of a ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down! I’ll keep my 06 HD.
But no adaptive cruise control? Still a nice looking truck. I am also awaiting for parking sensors and rear heated seats on my 2022 Denali HD.
