GM Confirms All-New 2024 Chevy Trax For Mexico

In addition to announcing the all-new 2024 Chevy Trax in Canada, General Motors has also just confirmed the arrival of the second generation of the totally reimagined crossover in Mexico.

The company’s Mexican subsidiary took advantage of the all-new 2024 Chevy Trax’s official debut in the United States to confirm that the model will be available next year in the Latin country, where the first-generation Chevy Trax was first manufactured and introduced in late 2012. The new 2024 Chevy Trax will arrive in Mexico to complement Chevrolet’s extensive local utility portfolio with a new positioning.

Unlike in the United States and Canada, where it will replace the first-generation model still on sale as Chevy’s entry-level model, the all-new 2024 Chevy Trax will be positioned above two other crossovers in the Bow Tie brand’s lineup in Mexico. As such, the new second-generation Trax will not be the most affordable utility in the portfolio, priced above the successful entry-level Chevy Groove and Tracker in the Mexican market.

GM announced that the 2024 Chevy Trax will be a significant addition to Chevrolet’s portfolio in Mexico, where it will further expand the current broad offering of internal-combustion crossovers comprised of the Chevy Groove, Tracker, Captiva, Blazer, Traverse, Tahoe and Suburban. The new Trax should be positioned both in size and price as a C-segment crossover in that country.

In fact, due to this particular circumstance and the fact that more than 60 percent of GM Mexico vehicles are made in China, there is a high possibility that the 2024 Chevy Trax will reach the Mexican market imported from the Asian country – where this model is manufactured and sold as the Chevy Seeker. Also, in contrast to the entry-level Trax’s 137-horsepower, turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH engine, the Seeker gets a 1.5L engine that develops 181 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, befitting a higher-end crossover.

The all-new 2024 Chevy Trax will arrive in Mexico sometime in 2023, possibly a few months after the United States and Canadian markets this coming spring. The exact introduction date as well as the details of the trim levels, equipment and prices of the 2024 Trax for that market will be revealed closer to the time of launch.

  1. So GM imports the Chinese made Seeker with all its upper level options to Mexico as the Trax? Well good for them, I guess. At least it will be positioned above the hot selling Tracker and Groove.

    1. So I take it they are not making a replacement for the buick encore based on this? Car and Driver says no, but I was wondering if GM Authority knew anything.

      1. There’s a separate article about it, they’re considering bringing over the Buick Envista (platform twin to the Seeker/Trax) but nothing is confirmed.
