The GM Authority Take

Chevy Equinox sales continued to post healthy growth during Q3 2022. While the Toyota RAV4 remains far and away the sales leader in this crowded segment of 16 entries, the Equinox is now challenging the Honda CR-V for second place in any given quarter.

The Chevy Equinox received a mid-cycle refresh for the 2022 model year, representing the fifth model year of the current, third-generation model. A long list of 2022 Equinox changes and updates includes revised front and rear fascias as well as the addition of the sporty RS trim level. Additionally, the 2022 Equinox became slightly more affordable than the preceding model year.

The 2023 Chevy Equinox ushers in a few noteworthy updates and changes as well, the biggest of which is a new engine, with the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline engine replacing the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LYX. Also, the 2023 Equinox receives a new e-boost braking system. Additionally, the Sport Edition and Midnight Edition packages return for the 2023 model year. Pricing for the 2023 Equinox increases $300 across the board over the 2022 model year.

Production of the 2023 Chevy Equinox began at the GM San Luis Potosí plant and GM Ramos Arizpe plant, both located in Mexico, on August 22nd, 2022. The online configurator tool is now live for the 2023 Equinox.

While the current, internal-combustion-engined Equinox will continue being offered well into the future, including a next-gen model, GM CEO Mary Barra recently debuted the first-ever 2024 Chevy Equinox EV on CBS Mornings after the automaker initially teased the all-electric compact crossover earlier this year. The 2024 Chevy Equinox EV will feature as standard a single Ultium Drive electric motor powering the front wheels, rated at 210 horsepower and 242 pound-feet of torque. An option ‘eAWD’ system will also be offered, rated at 290 horsepower and 346 pound-feet of torque.

We look forward to seeing how Chevy Equinox sales fare when the all-electric variant hits the market to be sold alongside the ICE model.

  1. I have the current generation (2019) Equinox LT with the 1.5, the sunroof and the larger touchscreen (not that cheap looking one) and love it. I believe sales of this really good crossover would challenge the Rav4 if they offered a hybrid version. Well i guess wait for the Electric one which is gorgeous. I hope the next and probably the last ICE model looks alot like the Equinox EV.

  2. Agree with Steve. I can’t wait till Chevy gets the EV version of the Nox out to help push the sales. Can you imagine had Chevy NOT dropped the Volt tech platform and instead put that into the current Nox? Offer it in the base 1.5L turbo, Volt tech version and now the EV? That would be a huge win for GM and Chevy. Heck, I’d absolutely love it if I could get my exact Malibu but with the Volt platform!

The only reason the Rav4 sells in higher numbers is because they do offer more powertrain options.

  3. As a present owner of a 2009 Equinox, I love this vehicle which has the 3.4 L V6 engine. The Toyota and Honda competition sell more because they are cheaper in every sense of the word “cheap”. I am also waiting for the electric Equinox for 2023.

  4. Will this be able to tow 3,500 lbs like my 2018, 2 liter. It would be a bonus. I like the looks

    1. The 1.5L AWD ICE Equinox can only tow around 1500lbs. Even if the Equinox EV has more “horsepower” than the 2.0L Equinox, towing anything of significant size will greatly reduce the battery range from its already embarrassingly low 200ish miles. Go watch the many different YouTube videos about towing with the new F150 Lightning. For a truck that has an extended range battery, towing a 5000lb-6000lb trailer will get you an average range of less than 100 miles. EV’s are not ready to duplicate the “utility” that we currently enjoy in SUV’s or trucks…that is still many years away.

  5. I’m always amazed how Nox holds onto number 3 spot yet Ford with both Escape, Bronco Sport (& Edge which should be counted here) runs far behind Hyundai and Kia.
Why is the eNox so ugly? This segment was chance at branding Chevrolet as the go to EV brand. Would like reading an article about who designed it.

    1. The EV Equinox is what the ICE Equinox should look like now. Instead, they stuck with the rental car spec for the current model…old and tired. I don’t necessarily like the outside of the EV, but the inside does look nice.

  6. Just nice to be able to tow a 3500 lbs fishing boat to the local lake. Like I can with my 2 liter. Not about distance, just capabilities.

  7. The weak sales of the equinox versus the RAV4 is mostly due to no inventory to sell .
Go to a GM lot and you will ne lucky to find 1 or 2 vehicles
Go to Toyota and there are many RAV4 in all models.
    I have a 2020 midnight ‘Nox with the 2.0 L, 9spd . leather , sunroof , 19’wheels etc . It is a fantastic vehicle
What Chevy needs is inventorty on the lots to sell !!
