The 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup has been the topic of much conversation since the supertruck was first revealed and launched. Today, we’re here to discuss whether the Hummer EV Pickup is compatible with a slide-on truck camper.
With trucks like Chevy Silverado 1500 and Silverado HD, as well as the GMC Sierra 1500 and Sierra HD able to carry a slide-on truck-camper, some owners and shoppers might want to know if the Hummer EV Pickup can carry one as well. In a word, the answer is no.
According to documents seen by GM Authority, the GMC Hummer EV Pickup was neither designed nor intended to carry a slide-on truck-camper. In addition, adding a slide-in camper or similar equipment to the supertruck can damage it, and the repairs would not be covered by the vehicle warranty.
As a reminder, 2022 GMC Hummer EV production began late last year at the GM Factory Zero plant (née GM Detroit-Hamtramck plant) in Michigan. Output is sourced from GM Ultium batteries and GM Ultium drive motors, with the Hummer EV Pickup Edition 1 model producing a neck-snapping 1,000 horsepower and a gargantuan 11,500 pound-feet torque. Under the skin, the GMC Hummer EV rides on GM’s dedicated electric BT1 platform, which also underpins the GMC Hummer EV SUV along with the upcoming Chevy Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV.
Last month, GM revealed that it currently has 90,000 reservations for the GMC Hummer EV SUV and Hummer EV Pickup combined – enough to prompt the automaker to stop taking new reservations for the EVs. GMC says that new units of the Hummer EV pickup are being built and shipped daily, with reservations filled in the order in which they were received. As of July, GM has produced 1,700 examples of the GMC Hummer EV Pickup.

In the first place, WHERE WOULD YOU PUT IT? The bed’s not big enough for 3 garbage cans! If you had 3 garbage cans to take to the curb you’d have to make 2 trips. That is the most wasted $115,000 I’ve seen. Not to mention the electronics would probably fail before you got back to the garage.
Anyone buying a Hummer EV is definitely not because it is a pickup configuration. If a slide in could fit, the estimate mile range probably would be cut in half. A generator would be needed at the campsite to get back to where you came from, or atleast the nearest charging station. A youtube video showed where someone ran some tests with the F-150 Electric. Each test run was with increased towing loads. A boat and trailer (maybe 16-18′ boat, its milage range was cut way down but enough to get to a nearby lake and back home. Just search on youtube on this topic.
“Slide on”? Never heard that before, we always called them slide “ins”.
Do you remember the old Ford F-250 Camper Special? That was a real truck! They made a Trailer Special too.
No, that is NOT a real truck. The GMC Hummer is a real truck. Both ford and dodge are dead, soooooooo
