BrightDrop just announced a new collaborative effort with Nauto, a California-based provider of advanced driver assistance technology and driver monitoring systems. The collaboration will provide commercial fleet customers with access to Nauto’s predictive AI safety systems in an effort to improve driver safety performance, reduce collision loss, and save lives.
BrightDrop’s primary focus is on the development and deployment of all-electric technologies for the commercial delivery segment. As Nauto points out, safety is a considerable concern in the last-mile delivery segment, as it frequently requires that drivers execute high-risk start, stop, and reverse maneuvers in challenging environments, including urban streets, residential neighborhoods, and crowded parking lots.
Nauto’s real-time AI systems are trained on more than 1.7 billion AI-processed driving miles, and can deliver preventative warnings with up to 99 percent accuracy. The safety technology is said to result in a 60-percent to 80-percent reduction in risky and distracted driving within a few weeks, all without manager intervention, as well as a 50-percent to 80-percent reduction in collisions across a variety of vehicle sizes and types, geographies, and verticals.
“We’re at a tipping point in the commercial vehicle industry where it’s not only good for the environment, but it’s economical to switch to an electric fleet,” said chief revenue officer at BrightDrop, Steve Hornyak. “BrightDrop’s electric delivery vans can already save fleet owners thousands of dollars in operating costs. Now, our customers have the option to take advantage of Nauto’s early warning alerts that can translate into critical extra seconds for drivers to react, helping to avoid collisions and reduce the costs that result from them.”
General Motors launched BrightDrop in early 2021 to offer an “ecosystem of electric first-to-last-mile products,” including software and services to enable delivery and logistics companies to transport goods more efficiently. Among the products on offer is the BrightDrop Zevo 600 all-electric delivery van, which is already in service in California.
