GM unveiled the fully refreshed 2024 GMC Sierra HD earlier this month, debuting a variety of important updates and changes. Now, we’re getting our first real-world look at the refreshed 2024 GMC Sierra HD in the SLT trim level.
For those readers who may be unaware, the SLT is offered as the mid-level trim, with this particular example finished in Cardinal Red (paint code G7C). Up front, we notice that this particular model also equips a placeholder grille, which is finished in black rather than the chrome-finish grille normally equipped by the SLT trim level.
That said, this 2024 GMC Sierra HD SLT still includes some of the usual SLT chrome accents, including chrome for the mirror caps and door handles. We also see a set of fog lamps mounted in the corners of the front bumper, which are much smaller than the fog lamps equipped prior to the latest 2024-model-year refresh.
Further notable items include glue residue on the headlight clusters, which tells us that this particular model was wrapped in camouflage at one point.
The GMC Sierra HD was originally slated to receive a refresh for the 2023 model year, but due to complications stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic and global microchip shortage, the refresh was pushed back to the 2024 model year instead.
In addition to exterior styling changes applied to the front bumper, fascia, and grille, the refreshed 2024 GMC Sierra HD also features an overhauled interior space, including a unique cabin for SLE and SLT trim levels, and a premium cabin for AT4, Denali, and the new-for-2024 Denali Ultimate.
Further updates include changes made under the hood, where the optional 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine is now rated at 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque, substantially more than the 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque produced prior to the refresh. What’s more, the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine now connects to the Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission, rather than the GM six-speed automatic transmission included prior to the refresh.
Under the new body panels, the 2024 GMC Sierra HD once again rides on the more-capable variant of the GM T1 platform. Production will take place at the GM Flint plant in Michigan.

Article says “placeholder grille”, it will most likely be chrome in production form.
Whats above the fog lights in the bumper? At first I thought that large rectangle was the fog Iight. Then I saw the smaller light below that large rectangle.
Maybe it’s some kind of sensor ?
