2024 GMC Sierra HD AT4: The Heavy Duty Off-Roader

The GMC Sierra HD range, which consists of the Sierra 2500 HD and Sierra 3500 HD, is receiving a major refresh for the 2024 model year. Announced just last week, the updates incorporate a new front fascia, new tail lamps, an overhauled interior, along with noteworthy powertrain and capability upgrades. Today, we’re taking a closer look at the 2024 GMC Sierra HD AT4 in the following GM Authority spotlight.

The 2024 GMC Sierra HD trim lineup, from bottom to top, consists of Pro, SLE, SLT, AT4, Denali and Denali Ultimate. In addition, the Sierra HD AT4X trim will arrive later on in the model year. The Sierra AT4 HD trim level slots right in the middle of the lineup, offering a healthy combination of off-road ability, heavy duty capability, and luxury.

On the exterior, the Sierra HD AT4 features new LED projector headlamps with signature lighting, a redesigned AT4-specific front grille and fascia, and a set of red tow (recovery) hooks at the front, along with spray-on bedliner with the AT4 logo and a GMC MultiPro Tailgate at the rear. The truck features 20-inch Gloss-Black Aluminum Wheels with available BFGoodrich off-road tires as standard and rides on an off-road suspension package with heavy duty shocks and skid plates.

On the inside, the Sierra HD AT4 gets an overhauled cockpit headlined by an all-new, 13.4-inch diagonal center touchscreen and a 12.3-inch diagonal digital driver information center. A multicolor 15-inch Head-Up Display (HUD) is available.

In addition, the interior of the Sierra HD AT4 features a Jet Black interior with Kalahari accents, floor liners, a wrapped and heated steering wheel, 10-way power and heated/ventilated leather front seats.

All 2024 GMC Sierra HD models, including the Sierra HD AT4, will ship as standard with the GMC Pro Safety ensemble of driver assistance technologies, which contains the following:

The Pro Safety Plus package will also be available, which includes additional driver assistance features like Rear Cross Traffic Braking and the Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert.

As for the powertrain options, the 2024 GMC Sierra HD AT4 will continue to feature the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine as standard. The atmospheric V8 continues to be rated at 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque, but now features an Allison-branded ten-speed automatic transmission in place of the six-speed used in the pre-refresh models.

The 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine remains optional, but it’s been uprated to produce 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque compared to the 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque prior to the refresh. The big boy diesel continues to be paired with an Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission.

Official pricing details are expected closer to the start of production, set to start during the first quarter of 2023.

  1. Would be nice to see a 2nd choice interior for the AT4 other then black/Kalahari.
    Maybe Walnut/Kalahari ?

    2. Since the AT4 has red accents…the accent in the seats should be Red! Maybe offer a customized version where the accents are whatever color you want…that would be cool. My 2018 2500 HD, I had Red Bowties made for the grill and tailgate. Ties in perfectly with the red Z71 logo. Everyone does black and they don’t’ offer anything else. Fun to see people walk by my truck and do a double take at the emblems. For the AT4, that would be awesome to order all the red accents in whatever color and tie in the seat accents as well. I’m sure it would be an upcharge, but at the price of these trucks…that should be factored into the cost. Just my worthless $0.02

  2. Super cruise isn’t a standard thing? They have it on previous model years…

  3. Do away with the last century radio, use that space for a larger screen incorporating the ancient unneeded radio into the screen. Use the steering wheel functions and voice commands and on screen functions to operate the radio system’s.

Do away with the unneeded last century shifter making (more functional console space for the driver). Once you make the adjustment it’s really nice, to have the functionality of the additional space.

Make all the safety features as a (Safety Package) on every model!!! Why save all the safety features for the high end astronomically priced vehicles.

Safety for all customers should gain you customer’s, loyalty and appreciation for doing the right thing. Remember how the industry fought safety belts before they were made standard equipment. Happy, safe ALIVE customers, means repeat customers.

    1. I agree with the safety features as long as you can turn them off at certain times, but I disagree with the shifter and screen. The screen is perfect size imo (the big dodge and new ford screens are obnoxious after a few days) and I don’t know what you mean about the radio. The only thing there is a volume knob.

As for the shifter, the column shifter takes up less room than a console shifter so I know you aren’t talking about that. Are you talking about the stupid dial? or the buttons? Cause both are terrible when actually using your truck for stuff like plowing snow or anything that requires constant gear changes.

  4. Being a 2024 refresh, the 2500 HD AT4 should have upgrade options for the interior, why would you not? It’s a refresh year! We all know the AT4X will have a nicer option, such as the 2023 1500 at4x has. Kind of sad to see the same OLD same Old, if that’s all there offering. Does anyone know anything different?
