2023 GMC Sierra HD Regular Cab, Double Cab Production Under Constraint

The 2023 GMC Sierra HD introduces a handful of changes and updates, dropping in as the final model year before the arrival of the fully refreshed 2024 GMC Sierra HD. Now, GM Authority has learned that production of 2023 GMC Sierra HD Regular Cab and Double Cab body styles is under constraint.

According to sources familiar with the matter, GM will only build units of the 2023 GMC Sierra HD in the Crew Cab body style, starting with production in late October. The constraint for 2023 GMC Sierra HD Regular Cab and Double Cab models is not related to a supplier issue or shortage, but rather is a corporate decision. The constraint will likely change over time.

The official online configurator for the 2023 GMC Sierra HD went online at GM’s website several months ago. As of this writing, Regular Cab and Double Cab body styles are still listed among the configurator options.

Per previous GM Authority coverage, pricing for the 2023 GMC Sierra HD has increased compared to equivalent 2022 model-year vehicles, with the MSRP rising by $1,000 across the board, including both Sierra 2500HD and Sierra 3500HD models. As such, the least-expensive 2023 GMC Sierra HD model in the lineup, specifically, the Sierra Pro with the Regular Cab / Long Bed body configuration, rear-wheel drive, and 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine, is now priced at $44,770, including destination freight charge (DFC). However, with this new constraint in place, the least-expensive model available to order is the 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD Pro in the Crew Cab / Standard Bed configuration with rear-wheel drive and the 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine, which starts at $49,170, including DFC.

In addition to offering the 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine, the 2023 GMC Sierra HD can also be had with the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine. Production got underway at the GM Flint plant in Michigan on July 18th.

Once again Mary you are deciding on what people should buy and not what people want. Time to start looking at Ford and Ram.

I’m sure it was very satisfying to make this comment that no one of importance will read.. You should let go of your hard-on for GM and actually buy a Ford or Ram – they’re good trucks too… You won’t hurt Mary’s bottom line tho… you’re just one dude, and you don’t speak for the actual majority of buyers, just for yourself and maybe your small circle of friends who already got the truck they want… Those 18 folks who thumb-up’d your comment will still buy crew cabs, LOL …

The Constraint is that gm wants to squeeze all the money from people that they can get. To heck with the customers. You’ll buy what we sell or nothing. But it doesn’t work that way yet. There are other options.

Sounds like they are using up all of those parts and don’t want to order more to get stuck with When the model changes.

By all means – constrain the vehicles that keep your dealers open and keeps the lights on at the ren center.

Let’s throw $ billions into the most botched EV roll out in automotive history instead of putting more resources into building what people want.

Looking at the other comments, it’s clear to me that there’s 4 neckbeards in here who think their perception of the truck they want must be the perception of the entire market of truck buyers, when in REALITY, corporate decisions like this are based on aggregate data about the ACTUAL majority of trucks ACTUALLY being sold. The expectation that GM will cowtow to the whims of 4-5 self-aggrandizing unemployed schmo’s in the comments of a blog is beyond laughable.
