Earlier this month, GM Authority was the first to report that GM would offer the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition, an even-more capable variant of the all-new third-generation 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X pickup. Now, GM Authority is reporting that the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition is still on the way, and is set to include a number of important upgrades over the standard 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X.
For those readers who may be unaware, the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition follows in the footsteps of the 2023 GMC Sierra AT4X AEV Edition that debuted over the summer. Developed in collaboration with American Expedition Vehicles, the 2023 GMC Sierra AT4X AEV Edition features a selection of unique off-roading upgrades, and now, the all-new third-generation 2023 GMC Canyon will receive a similar treatment via the upcoming 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition.
Recently spotted undergoing testing in prototype form, the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition is equipped with an AEV-branded intake snorkel, similar to the Sierra AT4X AEV Edition. Additionally, the new Canyon AT4X AEV Edition is equipped with beadlock-capable wheels, the design of which deletes the gray decorative ring seen on similar wheels equipped by the Canyon AT4X Edition 1.
As GM Authority reported previously, the Canyon AT4X AEV Edition prototype spotted earlier this month appears to show signs of rough use, including damage to the rear bumper, scrapes to the front skid plate and safari bar, and a few other dings and dents, all of which suggest GM was using the prototype for some heavy off-roading activities.
As a reminder, the Canyon AT4X is equipped with a variety of off-roading components as standard, including a 3-inch suspension lift, 33-inch Mud Terrain tires, Multimatic DSSV shocks, front and rear e-lockers, underbody skid plates, and a Baja drive mode. The prototype AT4X AEV Edition model featured previously was also equipped with the Edition 1 package, which adds underbody cameras, a new off-road bumper and safari bar, a winch, 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels, and more.
As for the greasy bits, the GMC Canyon AT4X is motivated by the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine in the range-topping High-Output tune, throwing down with 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. Under the body panels is the updated GMT 31XX-2 platform. Production will take place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.

How about a luxury Denali street truck with chrome rims and Michelins, not jacked up. I’m sick of all these off road trucks!!!
Brad. Id like to see a performance luxury 2wd or awd midsized sports pickup from GMC or Chevrolet. Use the same turbo 2.7 with the highest output, and performance suspension simular to whats on the camaro, a 19″,20″ wheel wrapped in a performance all season tires.
I see a snorkel but there is no mention of other drivetrain modifications for deep water fording. What is the fording depth capability of this vehicle?
“”Snorkels”, that’s got to be the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen on pickup trucks! You know they make things to cross bodies of water, they are called “boats”! Why would you pay good money to have the privilege of drowning your own truck? When I was in the army, we did similar things to our trucks and the outcome was the same; our trucks didn’t run very well or not at all afterwards. We were told not to worry about it, Uncle Sam would fix it!
My question is; who’s going to pay for your watery adventures when they don’t end well? I guess GM is going to make a lot of money on this option?
