2022 GMC Canyon Heated Seat Retrofit Under Way

The 2022 GMC Canyon was recently under constraint for the heated seat and ventilated seat features, but luckily, customers affected by this constraint are now eligible to have the features retrofitted as part of a new GM customer satisfaction program.

Previously, certain units of the 2022 GMC Canyon were under constraint for the heated front seats feature, which is tagged with RPO code KA1. Heated front seats are normally offered as optional for 2022 GMC Canyon Elevation trim levels, included and only available with the Elevation Premium Package (RPO code PEH). Heated seats are also normally included as standard for GMC Canyon AT4 and Denali trim levels.

Meanwhile, the ventilated driver seat is tagged with RPO code KU1, while the ventilated front passenger seat is tagged with RPO code KU3. Both are normally included as standard for the 2022 GMC Denali trim level.

Units of the 2022 GMC Canyon affected by the recent constraint were produced between November 15th, 2021, and February 20th, 2022. The feature constraint was the result of the global microchip shortage.

Now, customers who were affected by this constraint are eligible for a dealer retrofit under a new GM customer satisfaction program. Dealers are instructed to replace the front seat heater control module, reprogram the body control module, and for some vehicles, reprogram the HVAC control module.

Several other GM vehicles affected by constraints for the heated and ventilated seat features are also eligible for a feature retrofit under this new GM customer satisfaction program. These include the Chevy Colorado, Chevy Camaro, Cadillac CT4, Chevy Malibu, and Buick Encore GX, among others.

As for the 2022 GMC Canyon, the pickup is offered with several engine options, including the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LGZ gasoline engine, which is rated at 308 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque, as well as the 2.8L I4 LWN turbodiesel Duramax engine, which is rated at 181 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. The atmospheric 2.5L I4 LCV gasoline engine is no longer offered.

Under the skin is the GMT 31XX platform. Production takes place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.

  1. Sounds like heated and ventilated seat retrofits will be done at the same time. This is helpful information because my dealer was not sure when I finally had front Rancho shocks installed last month. Although my dealer did say the heated steering wheel would come at a later date, with no discussion so far on HD trucks. Sure would be nice to take the truck in once and get all of the chip updates done all at the same time.

Hoping not to go through another winter without heated seats. However, as frustrating as this delay of retrofits is, all my friends that ordered a Ford truck only have a picture in an e-mail after waiting almost 1 year. 🤣.

  2. Now if only GM could do something, as a customer satisfaction campaign, to fix the heated seats in the 2015-2017 models that straight up don’t put out any heat.
