The 2023 Chevy Tahoe arrives as the third model year for the current fifth-generation full-size SUV, introducing several important updates and changes compared to the previous 2022 model year. Now, GM Authority is breaking down the 2023 Chevy Tahoe towing capacities.
From the off, we should briefly cover the different powerplant options on offer. The 2023 Chevy Tahoe is available with three engine options, including the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84, rated at 355 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 383 pound-feet of torque at 4,100 rpm, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque at 4,100 rpm, and finally, the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine, rated at 277 horsepower at 3,750 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque at 1,500 rpm.
All three engines connect to the GM 10-speed automatic transmission, while both four-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive are available to put the power the ground. Also notable is the optional Max Trailering Package. Tagged with RPO code NHT, the Max Trailering Package adds in the content from the Advanced Trailering Package, as well as the Enhanced cooling radiator, and for LS, LT, and RST models equipped with four-wheel drive, a two-speed transfer case as well.
With that, let’s check out the 2023 Chevy Tahoe towing capacities:

Towing capacity is slightly less with the 6.2 than it is with the 5.3?
The 6.2L is heavier than the 5.3L. Towing capacity is based on what the chassis can handle, and extra weight means less towing capability.
add wife 4 kids 2dogs6 bikes your towing will be lot less needs a 3.45 or 3.73 axel and gm needs to go back to the G80 soild rear axle
GM on independent rear axle “we want a smooth ride and leg room for the 3rd row “ z71 buyers we want a solid rear axel and no 3rd row GM in the Z71 Tahoe … as a off-roader car camper over lander we have no need or want a 3rd row
I wonder how many Tahoe’s GM sells for off-roading vs. as “family haulers” needing the third row. The cost of engineering both a solid rear axle and separately, Independent rear suspension for the Tahoe would likely be very high, and GM is seeking the highest market potential for the vehicle.
Z71 or if there was a zr2 off road could have had a soild rear axel
We just purchased a 2023 Premium Tahoe, 5.3 L V8 and will be towing a 30 ft light trailer, some mountain driving. Do we need an IBC. Do some states require this?
Yes any trailer over 3500 lbs needs a TBC you might need a 3/4 ton for a 30’ , hitch wt takes up some of the payload and where are you towing flats of Kansas or going over 10,000 ft pass ? How many people ? that’s part of the payload I tow a 6800 Lb airstream with 2013 it does ok my next truck will be a 3/4 ton
I have purchased a 2023 Tahoe High Country.
I’m wondering how much weight can the hitch hold.
I will be loading a Harley Davidson weighing 740 lbs.
This will not be in tow, but the mount runs left to right.
