As the auto industry moves towards an all-electric future, tire companies are stepping up with new rubber specifically designed for EV applications. That includes Goodyear, which recently announced the all-new Goodyear ElectricDrive all-season tire, as well as a pair of new tire sizes for the Goodyear ElectricDrive GT ultra-high performance tire.
The announcement includes the news that the Goodyear ElectricDrive all-season tire is available in 215/50R17 95V XL sizing, and 215/55R17 94V SL sizing, making it a suitable choice for the Chevy Bolt EV, Chevy Bolt EUV, and Chevy Volt, among others. Meanwhile, Goodyear is also offering the ElectricDrive GT in 255/45R19 104W XL, 235/45R18 98W XL, and 235/40R19 96W XL sizing. With these new tire sizes, Goodyear says its ElectricDrive lineup is now available to fit an additional 44 percent of the battery electric vehicles currently operating on U.S. roads.
The all-season Goodyear ElectricDrive tire includes a 60,000-mile tread life limited warranty, a V speed rating, and is specifically designed for commuter touring sedans and compact utility vehicles. The ElectricDrive line also include a load index that takes into consideration the higher load capacity of EVs, as well as the company’s SoundComfort Technology that works to reduce interior noise levels, plus an asymmetric tread pattern for excellent grip in both dry and wet conditions.
Meanwhile, the ElectricDrive GT includes a 40,000-mile tread life limited warranty, as well as a W speed rating. The new performance EV tire is also interesting as an indicator of where the industry is headed in terms of expanding existing EV options. Indeed, EVs are no longer relegated to high-efficiency commuters.
“The addition of the new ElectricDrive GT sizes allow us to meet the unique needs of more electric vehicle drivers with premium, performance Goodyear products,” said Goodyear director, Consumer Product Marketing, Michiel Kramer.

Are these GY Electric Drive tires increased to a Load Range “D” or even “E'” to accommodate the extra weight of an EV over a comparably sized ICE vehicle ? Just wondering.
Load range is XL. Load Range D and E are reserved for light truck (LT) tires, passenger car/CUV/SUV tires are either SL or XL. The numeric load index value tells you the weight rating for these tires. For instance the first tire on the list is a 95 load index, or 1521 lbs per tire.
Doesn’t look to have much of a sidewall, how’s these tires going to take to pot holes. I can see new rims in there future
Glad to hear this. We are running Michelin Pilot Sports on our Volt and Bolt because the LRR tire offerings to date have been more like low skidding resistance tires. I’m happy to take the hit on range to be able to stop and turn safely. It will be nice to be able to *hopefully* get the best of both of those worlds with the GT version. Can’t wait to see some real world performance reviews on these tires.
No mention of price. bet they are going to cost considerably more than regular tires
