The good news is that two all-new models from Chevy and GMC, respectively, debuted to take square aim at Toyota and to shore up GM midsize pickup truck sales.
In July GM revealed the all-new 2023 Chevy Colorado, featuring a new powertrain and plenty of on-board technology in a totally revised cabin. It is packaged in a redesigned body riding on more off-road-capable chassis. The new truck is available in five trim levels – WT, LT, Z71, ZR2, ZR2 featuring the new Desert Boss package, and the first-ever Trail Boss, which was formerly offered as a package on some model years.
Just last month GM unveiled the all-new 2023 GMC Canyon as the fresh third generation of the midsize pickup. Highlights include the first-ever 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X as the range-topper of the off-road lineup, along with revised exterior styling, an overhauled cabin, a new powertrain, and a range of tech goodies. The new truck is available in four trim levels – Elevation, Denali, AT4, and the aforementioned AT4X, which offers an exclusive Edition 1 package. All trims feature a factory two-inch suspension lift, enabling ground clearance of up to 9.6 inches, as well as a dedicated off-road performance display page in the infotainment system.
The 2023 Canyon AT4X features an extra one-inch lift over the rest of the line, as well as standard 33-inch MT tires, Multimatic DSSV dampers, front and rear lockers, underbody skid plates, and an exclusive Baja drive mode for high-speed driving on the rough stuff. Inside, the Canyon AT4X includes an Obsidian Rush colorway with Ceramic White accents. The Edition 1 package mentioned earlier aims to make the new off-road-ready AT4X trim level even more appealing with a variety of exclusive off-road parts and components.
Both all-new midsize pickup models are scheduled to arrive in the U.S. early next year. As evidence of how much GM is betting on these new trucks, it will introduce the Canyon in additional markets for the first time ever, including Mexico.

If you actually make a vehicle it will sell.Last call for 3.6
I didn’t see any analysis as to why these numbers were up. Is it because “full” size pickups have become too expensive for most of us. Or, is it because people want to avoid the new small (but fussy) engine new Colorado-Canyons? Or all of a sudden, people have seen what a superior truck this is? Other?
Sales are up because inventories were empty last quarter. Orders were in but people had to wait till parts were in to build and deliver.
Exactly , the sales are determined by the inventory levels.
These truck would sell well over 100k a year , but sadly they do not as GM limits production due to the chip shortage and other supply chain issues.
Even as a serious Toyota fanboy, I don’t know why Toyota continues to sell so many Tacomas. I rented the current Tacoma twice to pull a 2,500 pound trailer from AZ to CA and it was a miserable experience. That Camry V6 has to be up over 3K RPMs before it delivers any power at all. Even then it felt wheezy and seriously underpowered. Also, the 6 speed trans NEVER stopped rowing up and down through the gears, even on level stretches of I-10. The driving position was terrible as well. You literally sit on the floor with your arms and legs straight out. Extremely uncomfortable for long trips. I suppose people buy them for their off-road capability and reliability…but how do you justify the miserable drive train and bathtub driving position? Combined, that’s a flat out deal-breaker for me.
