Walter the cat starred alongside the Chevy Silverado in a pair of advertisements released last year, accompanying his owner and the pickup on a series of adventures. The advertisement garnered plenty of interest, and was recently nominated for a 2022 Emmy Award in the Outstanding Commercial category.
In the nominated ad, Walter is portrayed as a feline with canine-like tendencies, hopping into the Chevy Silverado 1500 with the ease of a large dog. His owner carts him around in the pickup and takes him on plenty of outdoor excursions, including hiking, playing fetch off a dock and trotting behind livestock to keep the animals headed in the right direction. As Walter gives chase to a stick, an onlooker comments “That’s amazing,” obviously referring to the cat’s athleticism and dog-like resolve, but the pickup’s owner replies that yes, the Multi-Flex Tailgate on his Chevy Silverado is quite amazing.
The creative commercial certainly played into viewers’ emotions with the adorable Walter, while subtly showcasing the myriad of environments in which the Chevy Silverado can perform. Its excellent execution made it a contender in the 2022 Emmy Awards against five other advertisements.

While Walter the cat and his rugged pickup put up a good fight, they didn’t take home the trophy in the Outstanding Commercial category. Instead, the title went to an ad titled “Teenage Dream,” which was presented by Sandy Hook Promise, an organization that seeks to end gun violence in schools.
“Dressed to the nine lives,” Chevy Trucks announced on its Twitter page after the Emmy Awards had concluded. “Walter would like to take a moment to congratulate his fellow Emmys nominees. We can’t all be winners, but no loser walks among us.”
