Following the world debut of the all-new 2023 Buick Envista in China at the end of August, General Motors has just announced that Buick’s new compact crossover is now on sale in the Asian country.
The SAIC-GM joint venture officially launched the all-new 2023 Buick Envista on September 23rd in Shanghai, confirming that this new nameplate represents a momentous entry for the Tri-Shield brand as it seeks to attract younger customers, in addition to increase its presence in the crossover category with the highest local volume.
“The Envista is another key pillar in Buick’s SUV portfolio. It gives the brand a stronger presence in one of the largest and most popular vehicle segments in China,” said Cesar Toledo, general director of Buick Sales and Marketing at SAIC-GM. “Since its global debut in China last month, the Envista has received a strong positive response from young trendsetters and modern families as a vehicle that fits their diverse lifestyles,” he added.
Most notably, the new 2023 Buick Envista is the first production vehicle to go on sale bearing the brand’s new global image, encompassing the Pure Design philosophy and newly stylized triple shield logo. In addition, the Envista stands out for its unprecedented coupe-like body style that clearly distinguishes it within Buick’s offering and aggressive positioning that may make it one of the brand’s best-selling models.
Despite being a state-of-the-art compact-sized crossover, the 2023 Buick Envista has been positioned below the current subcompact-sized Buick Encore GX, not between the latter and the Envision as previously estimated. In fact, the Envista’s starting price is closer to that of the entry-level second-generation Buick Encore than the Encore GX in the Chinese market.
The all-new 2023 Buick Envista crossover is now on sale at Buick dealers in China, with a lineup made up of four variants across three trim levels: Enjoy, Smart and GS. All come standard with class-leading technology and safety features, as well as a unique powertrain comprised of a 181-horsepower turbocharged 1.5L four-cylinder engine and a continuously variable automatic transmission.
Here are the prices of the four 2023 Buick Envista variants in China:
- 2023 Envista Enjoy: 152,900 yuan (about $21,450 USD at current exchange rates)
- 2023 Envista Smart: 159,900 yuan ($22,450 USD)
- 2023 Envista GS: 169,900 yuan ($23,850 USD)
- 2023 Envista GS+: 178,900 yuan ($25,100 USD)

Looks good. Assemble it in North America, offer it with optional AWD, and sell it is a replacement for the Encore/Encore GX. I would buy one in GS+ trim.
Another boring cokie cutter crossover. What for?
Well, I absolutely love it, even the color! I love my Envision which I only test drove because hubby is a GM guy. I was a Honda girl. So I’m guessing this is made for me. I hope it’s available in the US soon. But this middle aged woman is ready for electric.
