Stellantis has unveiled the new 2023 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty Rebel, debuting a fresh rival for the upcoming Chevy Silverado HD ZR2.
The new 2023 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty Rebel slots in between Laramie and Power Wagon in terms of the vehicle lineup, and is offered in a Crew Cab body style with a six-foot, four-inch bed. The exterior shows similar styling as Power Wagon, plus unique elements for the badging and a sport performance hood. Under the skin is a set of skid plates, while 33-inch off-road tires mounted on 20-inch wheels (18-inch wheels offered with late availability) are in the corners. Customers can also opt for a 12,000-pound Warn winch straight from the factory for gasoline-powered models.
Speaking of gasoline, the 2023 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty Rebel is equipped as standard the 6.4L V8 Hemi gasoline engine, rated at 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the 6.7L Cummins turbodiesel is optional, with output rated at 370 horsepower and 850 pound-feet of torque. Stellantis also says that the heavy duty pickup can tow upwards of 16,870 pounds and includes a payload rating of 3,140 pounds.
Notably, the new 2023 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty Rebel differs from the Ram 2500 Power Wagon in offering both a gasoline and diesel engine option, whereas the current Power Wagon is only available with the gasoline engine.
As for the rest of the greasy bits, the diesel-powered 2023 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty Rebel runs a six-speed automatic transmission, while the gasoline engine connects to an eight-speed automatic. Further details include an electronic rear locker and rear limited-slip differential. The off-roader also boasts a unique suspension system with a five-link coil setup and available rear air setup.
Inside, the 2023 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty Rebel features three seating configurations, including bench and bucket options. Onboard tech features include an optional 12-inch frameless digital gauge cluster, and available safety and convenience goodies like adaptive cruise control, full-speed forward collision warning plus, Lane Keep Assist, Blind-spot Monitoring, and Rear Cross Path detection.
The new 2023 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty Rebel is priced at $67,045, plus $1,895 destination. Sales will kick off in Q4 of 2022.

I would take this Ram over the new Silverado HD in a heartbeat…
I believe if these sell the powerwagon will be discontinued. Over the years the powerwagon has become less and less unique in terms of package content. The only powerwagon unique items at this point are the sway bar disconnect and front locking differential.
Yes, the styling portion of the Items For Sale unfortunately are always at the statistical front of the Importance Profile, but remember, the Proof is in the Pudding. Talk about the Items That Were For Sale now, in twenty years, same bodies, same VIN’s, and let’s see how they do THEN.
If you want to go beyond the flashy junk, then let’s concentrate and compare the longevities (historically) of components on these type vehicles and what kind of Quality they bring forth. Quality in this case should be a measure of Mean Time Between Failures, and as detailed as you want to get.
Everything will turn to cheese eventually. The cost of keeping said vehicles on the road and operational is a fair analysis, but remember one party might charge more or less for its componentry, and that skews the results.
A subjective analysis might be a fairer comparison: Ask people who’ve owned said vehicles for a lengthy period of time and see what they have to say about Quality and Reliability.
