General Motors has unveiled the all-new 2023 GMC Canyon, pulling the sheets on a fresh third generation for the midsize pickup. Highlights include the reveal of the off-road capable 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X trim level, revised exterior styling, an overhauled cabin, a new powertrain, and a range of tech goodies.
Outside, the 2023 GMC Canyon is taller and wider than the previous generation, improving the pickup’s approach, departure, and breakover angles. The front air dam was also removed, while LED exterior lighting complements the fully refreshed exterior design.
Inside, we find an overhauled cabin design as well, with a standard 8-inch digital instrument cluster for Elevation and AT4 trims, and 11-inch instrument cluster for Denali and AT4X trims.
The 2023 GMC Canyon is offered with a wealth of tech features, including available underbody cameras, an available head-up display, and wireless Apple CarPlay / Android Auto compatibility. Google Built-in (Google Automotive Services) is also available. The tech stuff extends to safety features as well, with the standard Pro Safety Package adding in Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking with Bicyclist Detection, IntelliBeam auto high beams, Following Distance Indicator, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, and Forward Collision Alert. The Canyon Safety Plus Package is also available for even more safety tech.
Under the hood, the 2023 GMC Canyon is equipped as standard with the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine. Although the L3B is available in multiple states of tune in the recently released, redesigned 2023 Chevy Colorado, the 2023 GMC Canyon is only available with the top 2.7L Turbo High Output tune, rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque.
With regard to the drivetrain, the 2023 GMC Canyon Elevation is available with either 2WD or 4WD, while the AT4, AT4X, and Denali trim levels are equipped with 4WD as standard.
For those customers looking for maximum off-road capability, the new-for-2023 GMC Canyon AT4X features an extra one-inch lift over the rest of the line, as well as standard 33-inch MT tires, Multimatic DSSV dampers, front and rear lockers, underbody skid plates, and an exclusive Baja drive mode for high-speed driving on the rough stuff. Inside, the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X includes an Obsidian Rush colorway with Ceramic White accents.
The AT4X trim is also available with the highly limited Edition 1 package, which includes underbody cameras, an off-road bumper with a safari bar, a winch, 17-inch beadlock capable wheels, a reconfigurable bed rail system, a performance front skid plate, and Edition 1 badging.
The 2023 GMC Canyon is scheduled to hit production on January 25th, with the new AT4X trim set to roll off the line in the spring of 2023. Production will take place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri. The Canyon AT4X Edition 1 will start at $63,350 before the destination freight charge, and reservations are now open. The Canyon lineup will start at around $40,000 before DFC.
