Here Are The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq Fuel Economy Equivalent Ratings

The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq earned an estimated driving range of 312 miles from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency earlier this year, setting a high bar for luxury rivals like Audi and Mercedes-Benz. Now the environmental watchdog has released its official mile-per-gallon equivalent ratings for the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq RWD, as well, giving us a better idea of the vehicle’s overall efficiency.

According to the U.S. EPA, the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq RWD has an MPGe rating of 82 MPGe highway, 97 MPGe city and 89 MPGe combined. This is equivalent to 38 kWh of energy used for 100 miles. For reference, the EPA deems 1 gallon of gasoline to be equivalent to 33.7 kWh of energy. This means the Lyriq RWD has an estimated annual fuel cost of $750, offering fuel savings of up to $7,500 over five years when compared to a gasoline-powered crossover of the same size.

The EPA also confirmed the Lyriq takes just 6 and a half hours to fully charge the battery pack on a 240-volt, Level 2 outlet, which is a fast charging speed when compared to many rivals, as outlined in the chart below. The chart also shows the Lyriq has good overall range, something we already knew, but is slightly less efficient than rivals from Polestar and Tesla.

2023 Cadillac Lyriq 2022 Audi e-tron 2022 Jaguar I-Pace 2023 Polestar 2 Single Motor 2022 Tesla Model Y LR
Drivetrain RWD AWD AWD RWD AWD
City MPGe 97 100 80 113 127
Highway MPGe 82 89 72 100 117
Combined MPGe 89 95 76 107 122
Energy Consumption (kWh/100 miles) 38 36 44 31 28
Driving Range (miles) 312 241 234 270 330
Time To Recharge On 240V Outlet (hours) 6.5 9 13 8 11.5

These new EPA ratings apply to Debut Edition and RWD trim levels with the 12-module, 100.4 kWh Ultium battery pack. Both of these Lyriq configurations feature a single, rear-mounted Ultium Drive electric motor rated at 340 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. The EPA has yet to release its range or MPGe estimates for the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq AWD, which will produce an estimated 500 horsepower.

For another comparison, the 2022 BMW iX xDrive50 is rated at 86 MPGe city, 87 MPGe highway and 86 MPGe combined with 20-inch wheels, has an estimated range of 324 miles, and consumes 39 kWh of energy every 100 miles. The BMW is not available in single-motor format at the moment, so this dual-motor model, which is currently the least expensive iX rated by the EPA, produces 516 horsepower and features a 111.5 kWh battery. The BMW and the Lyriq are comparable in size, however, and are in the same 5,650 lb ballpark for weight, too. The BMW lags behind the Cadillac with regard to charging, taking 12 hours to charge from flat to full on a 240-volt Level 2 outlet.

The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq Debut Edition began rolling off the assembly line at the GM Spring Hill plant in Tennessee in March. Pricing for this now sold-out Debut Edition, which is based on the entry-level trim, starts at $59,990. Pricing for the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq RWD, meanwhile, starts at $62,900, while the AWD is priced from $64,900. Cadillac will shift its trim level strategy for the Lyriq for 2024, introducing a more traditional model lineup with expected Luxury, Sport and Premium Luxury trims.

  1. My 2018 CT6 2.0E plug-in regularly sees 90+ mpg in EV mode and that is with a CVT transmission, a driveshaft differential, and half shafts. The Lyriq will be 110+ mpge at the speed limit.

  2. Instead of posting kWh per 100 miles, invert the calculation to miles per kWh, since it is more easier to understand, it is similar to miles per gallon, and every EV ownet knows how much kWh the battery holds, then you calculate the range. The higher miles per kWh the better!

  3. AWD based on battery 100kwh and 500hp 5000lb vehicle with should be around 250-260 miles.

  4. The model y doesn’t take 11.5 hours to charge. On our gen 3 level 2 Tesla charger we add 44 miles per hour of charging.

  5. Can I just say how dumb these made up ratings are like MPGe. How stupid do the think we are?!

  6. @Neil O’ Brien, I was thinking the exact same thing. Also, look at the efficiency of the AWD Model Y to the RWD Lyriq, that 312 mileage range is never going to happen in real life.
