GMC Ranks Above Average In J.D. Power 2022 Tech Experience Index Study

GMC ranked above average among mass-market brands in the recent J.D. Power 2022 U.S. Tech Experience Index Study, which ranks auto brands based on how effectively they implement new vehicle technologies, and how reliable these systems prove to be over time.

For this year’s edition of the Tech Experience Index Study, J.D. Power surveyed 84,165 owners of new 2022 model-year vehicles after 90 days of ownership, asking them to report how many problems they’ve experienced with so-called “advanced technologies” in their car, crossover, truck or SUV. It used this data to assign a ‘PP100’ score to each brand, which is based on the number of problems reported by owners for every 100 new vehicles the brand has on U.S. roads. It also awarded each brand an ‘Innovation Ranking’ based on a 1,000 point scale.

GMC performed very well in this study, earning an Innovation Ranking score of 482. This put the brand fourth among mass market brands and well above the industry average score of 469. Hyundai led the way among mass market brands with a score of 534, followed by sister brand Kia in second with a score of 495 and GM-owned brand Buick in third with a score of 482. Mazda was last among mass market brands with a score of 387.

EV-based technologies are among the top five most desired technologies in America, according to J.D. Power. The 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup is not only a battery-electric vehicle, but is among the most impressive EVs on sale today, boasting a 1,000 horsepower tri-motor powertrain and an advanced infotainment system with Google Built-In and Unreal Engine graphics. J.D. Power says a phone-based digital key is also among the top three most-desired advanced vehicle technologies, which the Hummer EV also offers. Additionally, GMC brand offers GM’s hands-free Super Cruise driving assistant in the GMC Sierra 1500, as well as the Hummer EV.

Going forward,  GMC will look to position itself as a technology leader in the truck market with the introduction of the GMC Sierra Denali EV – a new battery-electric pickup that will utilize the automaker’s Ultium battery design and Ultium Drive electric motors.
