These days, when it comes to performance, there’s a little something for everyone, no matter what your go-fast flavor of choice may be. Indeed, modern technology is stuffing every segment out there with some kind of performance option, including the utility segment. Now, we’re watching as three of the quickest utility models available go head-to-head-to-head in a drag race, featuring the GMC Hummer EV Pickup, Dodge Durango Hellcat, and Mercedes-AMG G63.
Coming to us from the Throttle House YouTube channel, this drag racing video clocks in at a bit over 8 minutes, and includes some specs, some banter, and of course, plenty of racing action as well, with the three utility models lining up for a straight-line test from a dig and from a roll.
Looking over the three competitors, we find several obvious similarities. All three are big, heavy utility models with sizable price tags, and all three make a ton of power. However, that’s where the similarities end and the differences begin.
For example, while the Mercedes and Dodge utilize internal combustion for their speed shenanigans, the GMC Hummer EV is all-electric. This particular example, the Edition 1, is motivated by a tri-motor, powertrain rated at over 1,000 horsepower, much more than the Merc’s 577 horsepower and the Dodge’s 710 horsepower.
That said, the GMC Hummer EV is much, much heavier, tipping the scales at a pavement-cracking 9,046 pounds. By comparison, the 5,710-pound Dodge Durango Hellcat and 5,842-pound Mercedes-AMG G63 are practically featherweights.
Then there’s the go-fast tech, with the GMC Hummer EV sporting Watts To Freedom mode to rival the Dodge’s launch mode. Meanwhile, the Merc doesn’t have any kind of launch mode at all, giving it yet another disadvantage.
As the video hosts point out, this straight-line test is mostly between the GMC Hummer EV and Dodge, but the Merc still manages to put up a fight. Check out the full drag racing video right here:

The Escalade V should have been in this test.
I was blown away that the g-wagon was as quick as it was… The Hellcat was predictable… But moving 9,000+ lbs of Hummer that fast was still impressive but certainly not practical… I think a Raptor R should have been included because, the Raptor in my mind is the true benchmark to compare against. Still, A fun video to watch.
