GM pulled the sheets on the all-new 2023 GMC Canyon earlier this month, debuting the latest third generation for the midsize pickup. Topping the list of updates and changes introduced by the next-gen vehicle is a revised exterior and overhauled cabin space, and now, we’re getting a look at the truck’s early design sketches courtesy of GM Design.
Recently posted to the GM Design social media feed (@generalmotorsdesign), the sketches give us a taste of the overall styling direction behind the redesigned 2023 GMC Canyon. Looking at the sketches side-by-side with the final production vehicle, it looks like The General didn’t stray too far in bringing this new design to life.
Up front, for example, we see a large, rectangular grille section with a technical-looking grille insert and prominent GMC badging placed high and center. The lighting was also updated, and incorporates horizontal lighting signatures in the upper corners of the fascia that lead into vertical lighting signatures along the periphery. Also, check the lower skid plate elements and tow hooks.
Moving into the sides, the 2023 GMC Canyon shows a tall, aggressive stance that underlines its off-roading demeanor. Side marker lighting is seen along the tops of the flared wheel arches, below which are mounted alloy wheels wrapped in chunky trail-ready rubber.

The design sketches also show off the interior of the 2023 GMC Canyon, specifically the new AT4X trim level. Looking at the sketch, we see a horizontally oriented dash layout with black upholstery matched to white highlights and red trim. The stitching is red, as is the surround for the passenger-side air vent, while red detailing is found on the upright central infotainment screen as well, all of which compliments the “4” in the AT4X logo.
As a reminder, the 2023 GMC Canyon features the 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine as the only powerplant option, developing 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. Production of the 2023 GMC Canyon will ramp up early next year at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.

Excellent design sketches. I think GMC should use these and others to help advertise the Canyon, by juxtaposing the artwork with HD photography of the truck in various environments.
The 23 Canyon from the pictures looks like a nice looking truck especially especially the black Denali does it come with real wide tires and 20 inch wheels
The 23 Canyon from the pictures looks like a nice looking truck especially especially the black Denali does it come with real wide tires and 20 inch wheels I really like to saw the 10-speed Transmission in it
Does the 2.7L I4 L3B engine require premium fuel or regular fuel in the High Output with 430 lbs of torque? GMC is using that engine in all Canyon’s.
From an esthetic standpoint the video/pictures must be commended. The powertrain with the revised 8-speed and T2 engine and 6-lug wheel bolt circle sounds interesting. However, to get me excited an optional V/8 would make the competition really stand-up and take notice. However, with GM buying into the “Green New Deal” ICE is out. What a shame… Hate to see and witness the death of the small block.
yep, what a shame these only come in 4 door trim. Think how cool these would be in 2 door trim with a 6 or 6.5 foot bed. Mary seems to think everyone wants a minivan. Which is what these trucks have become.
But that’s what people want.
It would be nice to have that 10 speed transmission In the denali pick up And maybe 4 wide tires Make it look like the gentleman gym that come out in 75 that was the coolest pick up on the road
Well did I get lucky
