The Chevy Corvette C8 is already a game changer, offering world-class mid-engine performance to take on some of the most potent speed machines on the market. That said, GM is far from done with the C8, with plans to release the Corvette Zora as the forthcoming range-topper of the lineup. Now, GM Authority spy photographers have caught The General benchmarking the new Ferrari SF90 Stradale as a rival to the upcoming C8 Corvette Zora.
The Ferrari S90 Stradale you see here is draped in Nero black paint and was seen on the North / South straight at the GM Milford Proving Grounds in Michigan. For those readers who may be unaware, the Ferrari SF90 is the Italian automaker’s new mid-engine coupe, mating a twin-turbocharged, 32-valve, 769-horsepower 4.0L V8 with a plug-in hybrid electric system and three electric motors. Two of those electric motors are mounted in front and operate independently, while the third motor is located between the engine and gearbox.
The end result is all-wheel drive grip and a combined output of 986 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque, enough to propel the Ferrari SF90 from a standstill to 60 mph in the low-2-second range, with top speed estimated at 211 mph.
Impressive stuff, no doubt. However, all that Italian-bred performance will have to face GM’s take on the mid-engine hybrid supercar segment, namely the upcoming C8 Corvette Zora.
As GM Authority has covered extensively in the past, the C8 Corvette Zora will catapult the latest eight-generation Vette to all-new levels thanks to the twin-turbocharged 5.5L V8 LT7 gasoline engine and complimentary hybrid system. The C8 Zora will also be the second Corvette to feature an electrically assisted all-wheel drive system after the upcoming C8 E-Ray. However, the C8 Zora will offer the highest levels of performance of any Corvette, with total system output approaching, if not surpassing, 1,000 horsepower and 1,000 pound-feet of torque.
We can’t wait to see the two machines go head-to-head. If you agree, then make sure to subscribe to GM Authority for more mid-engine Corvette news, Corvette C8 news, Corvette news, Chevy news, and around-the-clock GM news coverage.

gm can benchmark whatever they want but nobody would ever take a corvette over the Ferrari.
Plenty of buyers would take the corvette over the Ferrari, those of us who cannot afford the Italian car maintenance.
I was looking at a Porsche 911 on a lot and a rep from the Ferrari dealer walked across the street to give me an offer to buy my c8. So that at least says something. He said they had 4 c8s already and looking to buy more. The stingray was based on the 458. In all honesty though, my c8 is a better car than my 458. And more usable. But they have two different values.
On the more usable:
And that’s where the fun is!
With consideration to ongoing maintenance costs – the Corvette offers much more value. Then again, if you can buy the Ferrari to begin with – you probably don’t care. Besides, Ferrari does yield better bragging rights than the Corvette.
No one else can afford a Ferrari
All things being equal you’re right, Except the Ferrari is between 3 and 4 times the price of the Vette so there’s that.minor difference.
That’s the initial entry in the equation. The rest involves resale value. Some time ago, a car mag compared the cost of owning a Ferrari vs a Chevy Impala after 5 years. When resale was included, owning the Ferrari was free! The Impala had lost most of its value and was headed for Big Jim’s used car lot. Not every Ferrari appreciates the same, but every Corvette will lose value. The Ferrari’s greatest cost is actually opportunity, what the $400K could have made in the stock market instead of in the garage. Again, the Ferrari and Corvette cannot be compared. One is a collectible. The other a volume product with 30,000 new units every year.
I would. Ferrari sucks
complementary…complimentary means it’s free! yeah i know the price is built in—just amazed lack of language knowledge has gotten this high in publicity hierarchy. y’all be well! i sold my ’16 z06 last year as i wasn’t doing it justice; my 4th ‘vette.
I hope there are multiple versions of the hybrid C8 since I want the entry-level one and not the gonzo SF90-fighter one.
Nothing will replace a Ferrari. It’s a designer vehicle with a designer price tag. No one in the market for an SF90 will buy the Corvette because it’s a deal.
The Corvettes actually sold at this performance tier are far more likely to be driven at this performance tier.
While the Ferrari’s will spend 2,000 miles at best with its original owner driving from one fundraiser to the next at 45mph.
The 911 GT3/GT2 is a much better real world rival to these vehicles. The owner base has much more in common.
Benchmarking the SF90 is fighting the last war, for by the time the Zora goes on sale, Ferrari will have come up with something even faster and more expensive, probably 2.5 to 3 times as costly and far more rare.
They really can’t be compared.
You are 100% correct. GM cannot deliver the Z06 as promised, dealers haven’t even received their allocations. My dealer told me at the rate GM is moving on the Z06 I would be lucky to get my Z06 as a 2025 model year. Well, that’s when the Zora is supposed to be available. I asked can I put a deposit on a Zora and they said no since it hasn’t been officially announced. Ferrari definitely will have something new out when Zora arrives then GM will be back to the drawing board. I like everyone else will have to sit and wait for my Z06.
People “sit and wait” for their Ferrari’s all the time……IF they get invited to buy one!
Definately an application of More’s law: when some is good, more is better, and too much is just right!
Why did Ferrari license Magnetic Ride from GM years ago?
Both are awesome! Ferrari is the only exotic that I would buy…having said that I would still have a Corvetter Z06 as well!
670 naturally aspirated HP plus three 83 hp electric motors is plenty (919hp fwiw), plus you keep the V8 wail. No turbos to muffle that sound, create heat, catch fire, or replace.
The Stradale isn’t the nicest driving cars…it’s all about showing off tech and numbers.
