SAIC-GM-Wuling, General Motors’ second joint venture in China, has just officially revealed the first-ever Wuling Mini EV Cabrio as the newest member of the country’s best-selling zero-emission vehicle family.
The automaker has revealed the first official images of the production Wuling Mini EV convertible, nearly a year and a half after unveiling a show car of the model at the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show. As such, the Mini EV Cabrio becomes the new range-topping variant of the successful electric minicar, designed specifically for loyal customers who have been customizing their cars and asking for a convertible version.
In fact, SGMW announced that the all-new Wuling Mini EV Cabrio is a niche vehicle created to further cement the Mini EV’s position as China’s most popular electric car and will have monthly production limited to 100-200 units, with room to increase based on demand. For this reason, the model will only be offered through a lottery that will begin at the end of September.
The new Wuling Mini EV Cabrio maintains most of the design presented by last year’s show car, but adopts the latest styling evolution of the nameplate introduced this year by the new MINI EV GameBoy edition. However, it boasts its own distinctive elements such as specific bumpers with silver trim and rounded fog lights, new reinforced A-pillars and slimmer wheels.
Naturally, the Wuling Mini EV Cabrio has a two-seater convertible configuration that features a striking format consisting of twin silver roll bars and a canvas roof that can be chosen in black or dark red. In addition, the interior is also highlighted by the inclusion of a padded surface on the dashboard, a new steering wheel, more modern seats and a two-tone color scheme.
The first-ever Wuling Mini EV Cabrio will officially launch this week in the Chinese market, with an updated electric powertrain developing 30 kW or 40 horsepower, as well as a 26 kWh lithium-iron phosphate battery pack. It offers a driving range of up to 300 km (186 miles) on a single charge. The convertible variant of the Mini EV is available in three body colors: Sky Blue, Emerald and Modern Black.

needs a better colour range.
Taking the roof off saves weight, looks sporty, and ekes out a little bit more range. It’s a great idea, but the limited production run should be fixed. They sold thousands of these vehicles. 100-200 per month is nothing.
Looks like something you would subscribe to drive to go pick up your grasshopper schwaburrito on your way to a kids drag show…..
Why are we seeing foreign built for foreign distribution vehicles on GMAuthority? Is it mainly to rub in our faces that they are using the microchips that could complete American vehicles? I for one, am not interested in foreign vehicles- I want my Sierra AT4 completed and delivered to me. Enough already with foreign vehicles- tell us about American vehicles!
It’s a GM product on a GM fanboi site. Pull the stick outta your rump.
my matchbox cars have bigger wheels.
GM should be arrested for severely beating this poor car with the ugly stick.
Lithium Iron Phosphate battery. That’s the real interesting part for me. Not able to store as much as other Lithium ion batteries but the lithium requirement is lower and iron and phosphates can be recycled and are plentiful.
Big thing is they tend to last longer. On a $4300 car, last thing GM wants is lower income middle class Chinese having to sacrafice to buy a new battery within the first ten-to-fifteen years.
