Chevy was the best-selling auto brand in Mexico last month, ousting Nissan for the top-spot in the sales charts for the first time in recent history. Nissan previously held the position of sales volume leader in the Mexican auto market for decades.
As GM Authority covered previously, GM Mexico sales were up 51 percent year-over-year in July of 2022, increasing to 13,745 units. Sales increased at the Chevy and GMC brands, but decreased at Cadillac and Buick.
As for Chevy specifically, sales increased 56.32 percent to 13,017 units. Leading Chevy sales in the Mexican market was the Chevy Tracker, which saw a dramatic 238-percent sales increase year-over-year with 2,621 units sold, as compared to 775 units sold in July of 2021. The Chevy Tracker even surpassed sales for the traditional Chevy sales leader in the region, the Aveo. That said, the Chevy Aveo still managed to move 2,237 units last month, a decrease of 19.65 percent compared to the 2,784 units sold in July of 2021.

As GM Authority reported previously, more than 60 percent of new GM vehicles sold in Mexico are produced in China. GM stopped production of the Chevy Onix in Mexico earlier this year following the implementation of a new manufacturing strategy at the GM San Luis Potosí plant, with subsequent units of the Chevy Onix imported from China. Further Chinese-built Chevy models sold in Mexico include the Chevy Groove, Chevy Captiva, Chevy Cavalier Chevy Sail, Chevy S10 Max pickup and Chevy Tornado utility van.
In related news, GM officially launched the new midsize Chevy S10 Max in Mexico last April, nearly four months after the model’s world debut. A total of 672 Chevy S10 Max units were sold in Mexico last month.

Alex, the Chevy Tracker is imported to Mexico from Brazil, not China. All VINs start with 9 and not with L as the others. Just checked them at the dealer last week that I visited.
Congratulations Chevrolet.
91 Blazers and 0 Equinox. Guess the workers who make them there can’t afford to buy many at all.
Equinox is no longer offered in Mexico since 2020.
Lazaro, the Equinox was offered in Mexico until 2021MY. 2022, when the facelift came, it stopped selling, which coincided with the elimination of the option of the 2.0L T engine of the compact SUV.
