The GM Authority Take

Q2 2022 Cadillac XT4 sales more than doubled, posting a 116 percent leap for a 10 percent segment share. The gains are the result of improved inventory as a result of resumed production following an extended period downtown due to supply constraints, including but not limited to the ongoing global semiconductor microchip shortage. To address the issue, GM recently announced that it will have its own family of microchips locked in by 2025, a move that is expected to offset future chip-related production constrains and delays.

Production of the 2023 Cadillac XT4 began on June 10th, introducing minor changes for the new model year. The compact luxury crossover will continue offering a single engine option: the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine producing 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The boosted four continues to be mated to the GM nine-speed automatic transmission for both front-wheel- and all-wheel-drive configurations.

GM initially planned to refresh the Cadillac XT4 for the 2022 model year, but complications stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic forced the automaker to punt it to the 2023 model year. The updated model was then delayed once again, and is now due to launch for the 2024 model year.

We have spied several 2024 Cadillac XT4 prototypes undergoing testing in various stages of development. The refreshed model will introduce a new front-end treatment with revised lighting, the latter of which will follow Cadillac’s latest design language with a set of thin horizontal and vertical accent lights. The primary headlights, meanwhile, will be relocated below the horizontal and inside the vertical lights. Out back, a set of updated taillights appear to include a few minor changes for the L-shaped housing.

The changes will continue into the cabin with revisions to the center stack, dash, gauge cluster, and infotainment screen. In fact, the refreshed 2024 Cadillac XT4 is poised to gain a huge widescreen that will stretch across the vehicle dash – a layout similar to that of the fifth-generation Cadillac Escalade, introduced for the 2021 model year, as well as the Lyriq. The XT4 will also gain the vaunted GM Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver assistance system.

2023 BMW X1

Rivals, however, are not standing still. BMW recently unveiled the all-new 2023 BMW X1 that will rival the Cadillac XT4 and Buick Envision with revised styling, new tech, and an updated four-cylinder powertrain.

For GM, addressing XT4 production issues as well launching the much-overdue refresh will help keep XT4 sales on the right track.

  3. Nice to see both Cadillac and Lincoln pump up their numbers while the foreign brands shrink back a bit. Still a ways to go though.

  5. I’m sure it would sell better with more interior color choices and the 2.7T engine (which would need a different transaxle), but the existing sales volume can’t begin to rationalize the added expense of either, even if they weren’t going electric.

  6. Wow. Am I the only person not feeling the design of the XT4?… I mean, the X1, Corsair – others look so much cleaner and less wonky.
I was hoping for something with a little more design, less bulk, and cleaner looks.
And try finding one of these at the dealer!!! Nothing available still!
Will see with the redesign coming out what happens. Maybe it will grow on me.
    Good luck Baby Caddy.
