Cadillac Escalade Recalled For Third-Row Seat Belt Buckle Issue

General Motors has issued a recall for certain examples of the 2021 and 2022 model-year Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV full-size luxury SUVs due to an issue related to the third-row seat belts.

The problem: in affected vehicles, the rivet that retains the buckle to the mounting bracket in the left or right side third-row seatbelt buckle assembly may not have been properly formed during the manufacturing process. This issue also affected other full-size GM SUV models like the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban.

The hazards: if the third-row seatbelt assembly is not properly riveted, then it may be unable to properly restrain occupants in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

The fix: dealer technicians will be instructed to inspect the third-row seatbelt assembly rivet points and replace the seatbelt buckle assembly if necessary. These repairs will be performed at no cost to the vehicle owner.

Affected components: third-row seat belt buckle assembly.

Affected vehicles:

  • 2021-2022 Cadillac Escalade
  • 2021-2022 Cadillac Escalade ESV

Number of affected vehicles: a total of 484,155 vehicles are affected by this recall across the Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevy Tahoe and Suburban and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL model lines.

Owners should: owners of affected Cadillac Escalade models will be contacted by the automaker and instructed to make an appointment with their dealer. Those owners who may be unsure whether or not their vehicle is affected by this recall can visit my.gm.com/recalls and type in their VIN to view any open recalls or other actions that may be active on it. Unsold vehicles still in dealership inventory will be placed under a stop-sale order until the relevant repairs are performed. Customers with affected vehicles are advised to not use the third-row seat for transporting humans until the repairs are carried out.
